Dylarian Shipyards

orbital fleet yards over Dylar IV

The Dylarian Shipyards were a vast orbital complex above Dylar IV, used by the Terran Confederacy to build and maintain warships. They were the site of Raynor's Raiders hijacking the Hyperion and of a later United Earth Directorate raid that destroyed the yards.

By Joe Garratt

The Dylarian Shipyards, also known as the Dylar Shipyards, were a huge orbital complex above the world of Dylar IV. They served the Terran Confederacy as a hub for warship construction and maintenance and later became a flashpoint in the rise of Raynor's Raiders and in the United Earth Directorate invasion.

Confederate fleet yards#

In use by the Terran Confederacy since at least 2479, the Dylarian Shipyards maintained starships such as battlecruisers and served as a training ground for the Confederate Marine Corps. The complex also functioned as an outlying trade hub for the surrounding worlds.

Raynor's raid#

Shortly after the fall of the Confederacy, the newly formed Raynor's Raiders, then rebelling against the Sons of Korhal, attacked the yards in hopes of securing enough shipping for their cause. General Edmund Duke was dispatched aboard the battlecruiser Hyperion to stop them. In the close confines of the yards, Duke was hampered by a fear of causing collateral damage and fratricide and could not prevent the Raiders from temporarily seizing control of the docks and stealing the vessels they needed. The Hyperion itself was boarded and hijacked, and the Raiders left Duke tied up on the dock.

The UED raid and after#

During the Brood War, the United Earth Directorate expeditionary force raided the shipyards and commandeered a number of battlecruisers, using the captured ships to repel Terran Dominion reinforcements. The UED then destroyed the shipyards and conscripted the remaining defenders.

The Dominion rebuilt the yards after the Brood War, and they appeared in Dominion Fleet recruitment posters. During the Second Great War, the Dominion's Second Fleet regrouped at the Dylarian Shipyards following the zerg attack on Tyrador VIII.
