Meinhoff

Kel-Morian Mining World

Meinhoff was a high-UV mining planet where Rory Swann's outfit fought free of Kel-Morian control. Once a paradise world, it became a refugee staging point during the Second Great War and the scene of a zerg virus outbreak cleared by Raynor's Raiders.

By Joe Garratt

Meinhoff was a planet in the Meinhoff system, orbiting a star with a high ultraviolet output and possessing a very short day-night cycle. A mineral-rich world, it became the site of a mining operation run by Rory Swann in the years after the Brood War, and later a refugee staging point during the Second Great War, when a zerg virus swept through its crowded camps before Raynor's Raiders cleared the infestation.

Swann's mining outfit and the Kel-Morian revolt#

Meinhoff was a planet in the Meinhoff system, orbiting a star with a high ultraviolet output and having a very short day-night cycle. Rory Swann began a mining outfit there in the years after the Brood War, and profits soared at first. In an effort to drive Swann's operation off the world and take over its mineral-rich land for himself, Tavish Kerr used his father's vast fortune to bribe Kel-Morian Combine officials into levying higher and higher taxes, until it became nearly impossible to purchase necessities such as food, water, and medicine.

Swann declared his operation's independence from KMC control, and the Combine responded by sending a military contingent to seize all of his assets. The KMC crushed the revolt and began slaughtering the miners. The embattled community sent out a distress signal, and Swann was saved by Raynor's Raiders.

Refuge and the zerg virus#

By 2504, Meinhoff was regarded as a paradise world. During the Second Great War, refugee populations from across the Koprulu sector used it as a staging point from which they hoped to reach the safety of the core worlds. The death toll soared due to shortages of food and water in orbit, and the crowding made the world ideal for a zerg virus to spread through the refugee camps.

The virus made the infested refugees vulnerable to the high ultraviolet output of Meinhoff's star, so they burrowed underground by day and emerged only at night. By destroying the infested buildings during the day and protecting their base at night, Raynor's Raiders successfully cleared the infestation. Doctor Ariel Hanson relocated the Agria colonists off-world.
