Agria
Botanical Colony of the Koprulu Sector
Agria was a terraformed colony world and botanical preserve of the Terran Confederacy and later the Terran Dominion. During the Second Great War its population was evacuated by Raynor's Raiders ahead of a zerg invasion.
Agria was a planet in the Koprulu sector, settled as a botanical colony and best remembered for the desperate evacuation that Raynor's Raiders carried out there during the Second Great War. Once a barren fringe world, it was transformed into one of the principal botanical and wildlife preserves of the Terran Confederacy and, after the Confederacy fell, of the Terran Dominion.
Settlement and terraforming#
Agria began as a relatively barren fringe world until it was terraformed by Doctor Bernard Hanson, who founded a colony there and became its chairman. The colony came to boast a wide range of cutting-edge research and terraforming equipment, owing to its status as one of the primary botanical reserves of the Terran Confederacy. For years the colony remained relatively safe and prosperous. With the fall of the Confederacy in 2500, the Terran Dominion stationed a permanent defense force on Agria, and the world became one of its principal botanical and wildlife preserves.
Among Agria's settlements were Green Acres, Hudderstown, Larks' Crossing, and Megaton. The colony was also served by the Agria starport and lay near the Agria Valley.
Years of unrest#
In August 2502, the small town of Hudderstown Colony, inspired by rebel leader Castor Mezzo, was almost exterminated by a single female ghost sent against it. The town was rescued by the War Pigs, a band of outlaws, who killed Mezzo before leaving. A Dominion official who visited the town afterward considered the colonists "irrelevant".
Sometime after 2502, the ghost agent Nova Terra was sent to Agria to assassinate a former Confederate supporter. She psionically killed the man in front of his family before escaping undetected.
In 2503, a heavily armed group of pirates stormed Agria, intent on stealing the colony's hi-tech scientific equipment. Dominion marines engaged the pirates, carelessly slaughtering colonists who were caught in the crossfire. The pirates were eventually driven off the planet.
The evacuation#
During the Second Great War, Agria was invaded by the zerg. The Dominion abandoned the colony, and the zerg overwhelmed the planetary defenses. The population was gathered toward the main starport, but after twelve hours the zerg attacks became so intense that Doctor Ariel Hanson, daughter of the colony's founder, sent out a distress call.
Hanson's call was answered by Raynor's Raiders, who guarded the highway from Larks' Crossing as the remaining convoys were sent to the starport. The evacuation succeeded, but remaining Agrian colonial troops stayed behind to hold off the zerg long enough for the last transport to leave, at the cost of their lives.
