Haven
Refuge World of the Agria Colonists
Haven was a temperate world near protoss space where refugees from Agria resettled during the Second Great War, only to draw a protoss purification fleet when a zerg infestation virus surfaced among them.
Haven was a temperate planet within range of the Koprulu sector, lying close to protoss space. During the Second Great War it became the resettlement world for refugees from the colony of Agria, a choice that drew a protoss purification fleet under Executor Selendis when a zerg infestation virus surfaced among the settlers, and that forced Jim Raynor into a stark moral confrontation.
A world near protoss space#
At some point in its past, Haven housed an indigenous species, protoss or otherwise, and by the early 26th century traces of that civilization could still be found on the surface. By that time the world was known to the terrans of the Koprulu sector, but while the Terran Dominion was willing to use Haven as a rest-and-recuperation stop, the planet's proximity to protoss space deterred any serious colonization effort.
The Second Great War#
During the Second Great War, the terran colony on Agria was evacuated by Raynor's Raiders. The refugees first landed on Meinhoff, but abandoned it after an outbreak of a zerg infestation virus, and resettled on Haven. There they soon drew protoss attention. The protoss detected the zerg virus among the settlers, and Executor Selendis led a fleet to purify the new colony, with protoss jamming cutting off its communications.
At the request of Dr. Hanson, the colony's leader, the Raiders arrived at Haven, leading to a confrontation with the protoss. Selendis maintained that purification was the only solution to the infestation, but proved willing to let the Raiders handle the situation, while Hanson insisted she was close to creating a cure for the virus. Jim Raynor refused to cooperate with the protoss in killing all the colonists, trusting in Hanson's ability to develop a cure, and the Raiders destroyed the protoss mothership, a vessel capable of obliterating an entire colony base in a single blast. Selendis ordered her forces to withdraw, complimenting Raynor on his skill in battle and hoping his faith in the colony would be borne out. The Hyperion then landed to disembark Dr. Hanson.
Aftermath#
The colonists declared independence from the Terran Dominion and gave the Raiders the colonial flag of the old colony of Agria as a token of appreciation. The reprieve did not hold, for the infestation continued to spread, and the Raiders were forced to purge the colony, saving whoever they could while eliminating those they could not. Hanson herself was infested, and Jim Raynor was forced to kill her. The protoss later gave Raynor a plaque in recognition of the outcome.
