Alan Schezar
smuggler, crime lord, and cerebrate controller
Alan Schezar was a smuggler and crime lord whose Scavengers raided Aiur for protoss technology and learned to control zerg cerebrates, drawing the wrath of the Terran Dominion and the protoss before he died fighting on behalf of the dark archon Ulrezaj.
Alan Schezar, also recorded as Allen Schezar, was a smuggler, crime lord, and goliath pilot whose mercenary band, Schezar's Scavengers, plundered protoss ruins and mastered the technology needed to seize control of zerg cerebrates. His ambitions brought him into conflict with both the Terran Dominion and the protoss, and ended in his service to the renegade dark templar Ulrezaj.
Enslavers#
Alan Schezar and his Scavengers raided Aiur, where they obtained special protoss technology from a temple that, together with khaydarin crystals, could be used by ghosts to control a zerg cerebrate. In the course of his raids he also captured Mojo, a protoss commander and Scout pilot, along with the reaver Warbringer and the arbiter Danimoth, both held in stasis cells.
Schezar first caused trouble for the Terran Dominion sometime after the Fall of Tarsonis, when he managed to control a cerebrate on an unnamed terran world. Emperor Arcturus Mengsk knew that Schezar's Scavengers were skulking through a zerg-infested city, but did not at first conclude that Schezar was the one controlling the zerg. The Scavengers maintained a larger military base elsewhere on the planet, where they held a cerebrate under their control along with a number of protoss high templar in captivity. Those high templar had once worn khaydarin crystal amulets, which Schezar wanted for his own projects.
Rather than destroy the cerebrate, the Alpha Squadron forces Mengsk sent after Schezar made contact with the imprisoned Mojo and chose to rescue the protoss instead. Together the protoss and the renegade Alpha Squadron forces attacked Schezar's primary base on Aiur. Although it was defended by a cerebrate and a continually reincarnating Torrasque, Schezar's forces were defeated.
Dark Vengeance#
Schezar made a comeback by striking an alliance with renegade dark templar led by Ulrezaj, after the protoss of Aiur had settled the dark templar homeworld of Shakuras. Ulrezaj hated the high-born templar of Aiur. Schezar established his primary base on Braxis, where he worked with Ulrezaj and his Scavengers built a giant EMP Generator capable of draining the shields and energy sources from protoss technology, though it had no effect on Ulrezaj's own forces, the Fist of Ulrezaj.
When Ulrezaj traveled to Aiur on a mission of personal vengeance with three companions, all four were captured and taken to Shakuras. Ulrezaj had paid Schezar well to rescue him, and a large Scavenger force traveled to Shakuras and freed him at great loss, while Ulrezaj stole a khaydarin crystal during his escape. Zeratul and Mojo then led a revenge force to Korhal IV, the throne world of the Dominion, which lay in chaos. There Schezar's Scavengers fought side by side with zerg, leading Mojo to believe the terrans who had attacked Shakuras worked for Schezar. He was correct, though the zerg were in fact under Ulrezaj's control rather than Schezar's.
The protoss retrieved the crystals, believing they could use them to track Ulrezaj. The Scavengers, meanwhile, completed the EMP Generator and placed it on a space station built over Shakuras, where it disrupted protoss communications and drained the energy and shields of protoss warriors. By this point Schezar referred to his employer as "Lord Ulrezaj." When the protoss under Zeratul's command fought the Scavengers and the Fist of Ulrezaj, Schezar's forces lost the battle, Schezar himself was killed, and his men surrendered.
