Sara system

the twin worlds of the frontier

The Sara system was a star system in the Koprulu sector, unusual for holding two habitable planets, Mar Sara and Chau Sara. It was a Confederate frontier holding whose worlds became the first targets of the protoss purification that opened the Great War.

The Sara system was a star system in the Koprulu sector, unusual for holding two habitable planets, Mar Sara and Chau Sara, along with an asteroid belt. A frontier holding of the Terran Confederacy, it became the flashpoint of the Great War.

Colonization#

The Sara system was initially catalogued by freelance prospectors and colonized several years later by an expedition from Tarsonis. By 2480 it had passed into the hands of the Terran Confederacy. Not long after the completion of the New Folsom Confederate Mine, the catalytic elements required to forge neosteel were discovered there, giving the system real strategic value.

The Great War#

Confederate traffic increased substantially within the system in the four days following the protoss incineration of Chau Sara on December 8, 2499. The Confederates tightened security across all outlying systems, and fearing that Mar Sara would be next, panic spread among the colonists, prompting the appointment of a Magistrate to keep the peace and safeguard the population. The collapse of the Confederacy in 2500 left the system entirely abandoned.

Later years#

The Kel-Morian Combine staked a claim to mining and salvage rights over the system after its prospectors found that the minerals on Mar Sara had acquired unique properties from the protoss bombardment, and by 2502 contractors were strip-mining both worlds. The Terran Dominion later took a renewed interest and established several outposts, which the Combine claimed had been invited to address piracy and mining-camp revolts. In response to the second zerg invasion that opened the Second Great War, General Horace Warfield launched Operation Burnout to clear the system, and the First Fleet engaged the zerg there soon afterward.
