Hera ranked as the third-largest planet in the Cyrannus star system. It was a gas giant in orbit around Helios Beta, one of the suns about which the worlds of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol and their neighbors turned. The planet took its name from a deity of the Colonial religion, the same goddess venerated as the patron god of Gemenon.

Hera was attended by twenty-nine moons. The two largest of these were named Euboea and Iris, and twenty-seven further moons accompanied them in orbit around the gas giant.
