Biosector01's interactive reference guide to navigating the sprawling Matoran Universe's major locations and continents across G1 canon.

By Lore Fortress Editorial

The Matoran UniverseMatoran UniverseA civilization of biomechanical beings living inside a colossal robot, destroyed when Teridax seized control. is enormous. Not in the abstract "vast fictional space" sense, but in the actual sense of containing continents, islands, oceans, and regions so geographically complex that fans need a literal map. Biosector01 provides exactly that: an interactive imagemap showing every major location from the G1 canon. It's basically a video game world map, except it's wiki-based and it's been helping fans navigate Bionicle's geography for over a decade.

What It Is#

The imagemap is a clickable reference tool embedded on Biosector01's Matoran UniverseMatoran UniverseA civilization of biomechanical beings living inside a colossal robot, destroyed when Teridax seized control. disambiguation page. Instead of scrolling through alphabetical lists, readers click on a visual representation of the universe and jump directly to the article for that location. It's a grid-based coordinate system: each region has an invisible clickable area mapped to specific pixel coordinates, linking to the corresponding location's article. The map includes Metru NuiMetru NuiThe city beneath Mata Nui functions as the Great Spirit's brain, housing the Matoran whose labor keeps the god alive., Voya NuiVoya NuiAn island born from catastrophe and hiding the universe's most powerful artifact, Voya Nui was everything Bionicle 2006 promised: danger, mystery, and a race against time., Karda NuiKarda NuiThe vast inner cavern at the core of the Matoran Universe, original home of the Av-Matoran, site of the Codrex and the final battle that decided the fate of Mata Nui., the Northern and Southern Continents, DestralDestralThe headquarters island of the Brotherhood of Makuta, whose installed teleportation technology made the entire landmass mobile and turned it into the most strategically protected location in the Matoran Universe., ArtakhaArtakhaArtakha was the master craftsman of the Matoran Universe, ruler of a hidden island, and the forger of the Toa Mata, the Avohkii, and the Kraahkan., Xia, OdinaOdinaOdina is a member of both the Dark Hunters and the Cliff Screechers, operating within the Matoran Universe. Why It Matters#

The MatoranMatoranThe most abundant species in the Matoran Universe, chosen by Mata Nui to inhabit and maintain his cosmic body. Universe isn't a single landmass. It's a network of islands and continents separated by ocean and frequently by cultural isolation. Characters in the comics and novels travel between these places, and the spatial relationships matter. The imagemap makes those relationships visible in a way that text descriptions alone can't, showing why reaching some islands required significant effort, or why others remained geographically isolated.

It's also purely a Biosector01 creation. It doesn't appear in official Bionicle canon. Greg Farshtey's serials and the official novels describe the geography through narrative, not visual maps. So the imagemap is a fan-made reference tool, but one that organizes canonical information consistently and accessibly.

A Fan Solution to Canon Vagueness#

The Bionicle canon never provides a definitive scale or map. Novels mention travel times, distances in narrative, and geographic relationships scattered across dozens of books and serials. To answer how far one location is from another, a fan had to piece together clues from multiple sources. The imagemap solves this by centralizing location data in one visual reference. It's the kind of organizational tool that fan wikis excel at creating: it doesn't alter canon, but it makes canon readable.
