Nuva Symbols
Stone carvings housing the Toa Nuva's elemental powers, designed to seal the Bahrag but vulnerable to a crippling flaw.

Any external energy could shatter it. Their solution was the Nuva Symbols, six stone carvings designed to house their elemental powers and permanently stabilize the seal. It's one of Bionicle's most elegant ideas and, as it turns out, one of its deadliest liabilities.
The Nuva Lock#
The ToaThe Toa: Heroes of the Matoran UniverseThe Toa were biomechanical guardians sworn to protect the Matoran, bound by a strict code and defined by sacrifice across every age of the universe.'s solution was ingenious. Rather than maintaining the seal themselves, they created the Nuva Lock, a sphere containing all their combined elemental power. They split it into seven pieces: six Nuva Symbols and the central Nuva CubeNuva CubeA lock mechanism for the Bahrag's Toa Seal. The Bohrok-Kal hunted its key, the six Nuva symbols, nearly succeeding in 2003.. Each symbol was teleported to a SuvaSuvaSuva were the sacred shrines of Matoran civilisation, holding Toa Stones, Kanohi, and Nuva symbols across Mata Nui, Metru Nui, and beyond., the shrine corresponding to that Toa's village. This connection worked both ways. The symbols held the Toa's power in stasis. When the Kal Struck#

They stole the symbols, leaving the Toa powerless. Without their connection to the Suvas, the Toa lost all access to their elemental powers instantly. The Kal now held this stolen strength and raced toward the BahragBahragCahdok and Gahdok were the twin queens of the Bohrok, sealed in a Protodermis cage by the Toa Mata and later released to finish their cleansing of Mata Nui.'s lair, planning to place all six symbols around the central Cube and shatter the seal completely.

The mechanism remains vague in canon, but the result was unambiguous. Somehow, the Toa regained full mental control of their symbols, even with the Kal holding them.
