Powers and limits#

A wielder of Psionics had near-perfect command over psychic energy. At a basic level they could create and control mental energy. The expressions of this included firing blasts of psychic power, using both telekinesis and telepathy, and even controlling the minds of others. Beings of Psionics were also naturally shielded from any outside mental influence.

They had few weaknesses, because their element was present in the minds of all the sentient beings they came into contact with. They could not, however, absorb psionic power, which forced them to rely entirely upon their own elemental energy reserves. A Toa of Psionics possessed all of these abilities on a vastly greater level than a Turaga or a Ce-Matoran. As with every element, a Toa who lost their KanohiThe Mask of Life (Kanohi Ignika), explainedA failsafe forged by the Great Beings to recharge a god. The Ce caste and the rule of female creation#

The element of Psionics was denoted by the Matoran prefix Ce, a prefix derived from words relating to the brain. A Ce-Matoran was a villager of Psionics with innate, low-level psionic ability, who could become a Toa of Psionics and, upon fulfilling a destiny, a Turaga of Psionics.

The first Toa of Psionics ever created was Orde, a male Toa. One of his first missions after his creation was to calm down a group of Zyglak, but the mission failed: instead of suppressing their rage, his psionic powers increased it. Afterward it was decided that all subsequent Toa and Matoran of Psionics would be created as female, as females were deemed to be of a gentler nature. Orde therefore became the reason that all other beings of the element were female. Beings of Psionics were very rare in the MatoranMatoranThe most abundant species in the Matoran Universe, chosen by Mata Nui to inhabit and maintain his cosmic body. Universe, even before the reformation of Spherus Magna.

Known wielders#

Only two Toa of Psionics appeared in the main story. Orde, the first and the sole male, was hot-tempered and impatient. Varian, the other, was described as odd and quirky. Toa of Psionics usually wore armor in varying shades of blue, with gold as a secondary color. After TeridaxTeridaxTeridax orchestrated a thousand-year scheme that ended with him occupying the Great Spirit Robot itself before his death on Bara Magna.'s death, the remaining Toa of Psionics evacuated onto Spherus Magna, where they aided in the construction effort to build new homes for the refugees of the MatoranMatoranThe most abundant species in the Matoran Universe, chosen by Mata Nui to inhabit and maintain his cosmic body.
