Stasis Tube
Preservation devices that slowed life processes to near-stasis, widely used across the Matoran Universe for both archival storage and secure imprisonment.
Stasis tubes are simpler in concept than you might expect. They're preservation pods that dramatically slow a living being's metabolism, dropping all biological functions to near-complete suspension. Life continues inside, but so slowly that years can pass in the outside world while the captive experiences mere moments of their own time. The technology emerged as one of the Matoran UniverseMatoran UniverseA civilization of biomechanical beings living inside a colossal robot, destroyed when Teridax seized control.'s most practical inventions, deployed wherever long-term storage of living creatures was required.
The Archives and Their Preservation#
The Metru NuiMetru NuiThe city beneath Mata Nui functions as the Great Spirit's brain, housing the Matoran whose labor keeps the god alive. Archives housed hundreds of these devices, creating the most extensive living library of the Matoran UniverseMatoran UniverseA civilization of biomechanical beings living inside a colossal robot, destroyed when Teridax seized control.'s fauna. Each specimen, from the most common creatures to the rarest variants, was carefully cataloged and preserved for study. Researchers could observe beings that would've been impossible to access otherwise, whether because they were dangerous, too rare, or simply too elusive in the wild.

Creatures that had been held in suspension for centuries suddenly poured back into Metru NuiMetru NuiThe city beneath Mata Nui functions as the Great Spirit's brain, housing the Matoran whose labor keeps the god alive.'s environment. For a long time afterward, the Archives remained a ruin, and the technology lay dormant. No one knew if the tubes could ever be repaired.
Recovery and Imprisonment#
Recovery came only after the Toa returned to Metru NuiMetru NuiThe city beneath Mata Nui functions as the Great Spirit's brain, housing the Matoran whose labor keeps the god alive. and discovered the Staff of ArtakhaArtakhaArtakha was the master craftsman of the Matoran Universe, ruler of a hidden island, and the forger of the Toa Mata, the Avohkii, and the Kraahkan.. It took years of painstaking work, but the Archives gradually stabilized. Though the restoration remained incomplete, this work represented genuine progress toward recovering what had been lost.
Stasis tubes were also prison technology, valued by those who needed to contain dangerous beings indefinitely.
