Trauma Team: the Armed Paramedics of Cyberpunk 2077 and Edgerunners
Trauma Team is the private ambulance corp that flies in, guns blazing, to save paying customers and leaves everyone else to bleed. Here is how it works across the tabletop games, Cyberpunk 2077, the Trauma Team comic and Edgerunners.
Trauma Team is a private paramedic corporation in the Cyberpunk setting, and it only saves people who pay. Its clients carry implants that report when they are dying, and within minutes an armoured aerodyne drops out of the sky with medics and gunners on board. Anyone shooting at the client gets shot. Anyone bleeding nearby without a contract gets ignored. (Cyberpunk 2077; Cyberpunk 2020)
How Trauma Team works#
The business is simple. A client pays for cover, and their health is monitored through their cyberware. When something goes badly wrong, the signal goes out and the nearest team comes, by air. (Cyberpunk 2077)
The 2077 database sells it like a guarantee. An armoured AV arrives, its turrets clear away whoever is trying to kill the client, and the medics in their green and white armour patch the client up and hand over the bill. The entry says Trauma Team may be the only corporation the public really trusts, because it does not play politics or ask questions, so long as the client has paid. (Cyberpunk 2077)
Cover comes in tiers. In 2077 the packages are Silver, Gold and Platinum, and Platinum, the most expensive, promises a three-minute response. Big employers include Trauma Team cover as a perk. Kang Tao, for example, gives its staff Gold membership. (Cyberpunk 2077)
Trauma Team in the tabletop games#
Trauma Team was already a fixture in Cyberpunk 2020. Its teams fly armoured AV-4 aerodynes kitted out with life support, and each crew mixes medical technicians with armed security. Subscriptions are expensive and the meter is running from the moment a team is dispatched. The rulebook's tone is cold: these people see bodies as jobs. (Cyberpunk 2020)
The Fourth Corporate War nearly broke it. Cyberpunk RED says Trauma Team kept itself neutral by refusing to answer calls from Arasaka or Militech personnel during the fighting, and still ended up overwhelmed. By 2045 it survives as a network of regional franchises, short of parts, drugs and trained medics, with heavier armour and shorter tempers. (Cyberpunk RED)
Trauma Team in Cyberpunk 2077#
Trauma Team shows up in the first proper job of the game. In The Rescue, V and Jackie Welles are sent to save Sandra Dorsett, a Trauma Team client taken by scavengers who have started stripping her cyberware and are blocking her signal with a jammer. They find her packed in ice, keep her alive and pull the jammer. A Trauma Team AV lands to take her away, giving players their first look at the corp at work. (Cyberpunk 2077)
After that it is part of the city's background: AVs overhead, ads on screens, medics in the streets. Its presence is a reminder that, in Night City, the difference between living and dying after a shooting is often a subscription. (Cyberpunk 2077)
The Trauma Team comic#
Dark Horse's four-issue Cyberpunk 2077: Trauma Team, written by Cullen Bunn with art by Miguel Valderrama, follows a medic named Nadia. She is the only survivor of a call that turns into a massacre, and when she returns to duty her new client is Apex, the man who killed her old team, trapped high in a skyscraper full of gangers who want him dead. It is the setting's most detailed look at life inside the company. (Cyberpunk 2077: Trauma Team)
Trauma Team in Edgerunners#
Edgerunners uses Trauma Team three times, and none of them flatter it. In the first episode, an attack leaves David Martinez and his mother Gloria hurt in a crash. A Trauma Team crew arrives, checks that neither of them is a client, and leaves. Gloria dies soon after. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, "Let You Down")
In episode six, a job against an Arasaka executive goes wrong when the crew's jammer stops blocking his Trauma Team signal. The team arrives, the fight with the police turns into a slaughter, and Maine's crew starts to fall apart. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, "Girl on Fire")
In the finale, a Trauma Team crew is wheeling away the fixer Faraday, whom David has just crushed, when the sight distracts David long enough for Adam Smasher to shoot him. Smasher's missile blasts David, Lucy and Faraday's stretcher out of the tower, and Faraday falls to his death. The Edgerunners explained page covers the full series. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, "My Moon My Man")
