The Arrakis Revolt was the historical term for the uprising of the Fremen of Arrakis under the leadership of Paul Atreides, fought in the latter events of the Desert War. What began as a guerrilla campaign against the Harkonnen occupiers eventually drew in the Great Houses, the Spacing Guild, and the Padishah Emperor himself, and ended with the fall of House Corrino from power.

Occupation of Arrakis#

After the siege of Arrakeen, the Harkonnen occupiers set about restoring spice production on Arrakis. Believing House Atreides wiped out and the Fremen too weak to pose any real threat, Glossu Rabban Harkonnen squeezed the planet and its inhabitants in a vice grip. The brutality of his rule fell hardest on the native Fremen, whom the occupiers underestimated.

The guerrilla war#

What neither the Harkonnens nor the Padishah Emperor knew was that Paul Atreides and his mother, Lady Jessica, had survived and joined a local Fremen tribe. Taking the name Muad'Dib, Paul led his newfound brethren in a guerrilla war against their common enemy. With the new weapons, skills, and tactics the newcomers brought, the already formidable Fremen warriors were made far more deadly. Within a few years the Harkonnen forces on the planet had suffered crippling losses, and spice output had been reduced to insufficient levels.

Culmination and fall of House Corrino#

The Harkonnens' inability to safeguard spice production eventually demanded the attention of the other Great Houses, the Landsraad, the Guild, and even the Emperor himself. The conflict finally culminated in the Battle of Arrakeen, where Muad'Dib and his Fremen blew down the walls of the city with atomics and rode sandworms through the fortifications to overwhelm the Sardaukar and Harkonnen forces. This marked the end of the Desert War and the advent of the Atreides Empire.
