Salusa Incident
the atomic devastation of Salusa Secundus
The Salusa Incident was the renegade atomic attack by House Tantor that devastated Salusa Secundus and forced House Corrino to move the Imperial Throne to Kaitain. The young Emperor Hassik Corrino III rebuilt the dynasty and turned the ruined homeworld into the Imperial prison planet.
The Salusa Incident, also known as the Salusa Holocaust, the Salusa Catastrophe, or the Salusan Disaster, was the event that devastated Salusa Secundus. A renegade House Tantor landed on the world with family atomics and bombed the capital, setting off an ecological catastrophe that forced House Corrino to relocate the Imperial Throne to Kaitain.
The attack#
House Tantor went renegade and managed to land on Salusa Secundus with their family atomics. In a daring raid they bombed the capital and set off an ecological catastrophe that ruined the world. A few members of House Corrino survived, including the young Padishah Emperor Hassik Corrino III, who moved the Imperial Throne to Kaitain in a different, more secure solar system, where he rebuilt the dynasty and restored Imperial government alongside the other survivors.
Rebuilding on Kaitain#
Following the nuclear holocaust and the relocation of the Imperium's seat of government, all were anxious to establish an optimistic new order. Hassik III wanted to show that even after the near obliteration of House Corrino, the Imperium and its business would continue at a more exalted level than ever before. He taxed his subjects nearly into bankruptcy to rebuild a governmental infrastructure, and members of the Landsraad, vowing not to be outdone by House Corrino, built their own monuments in the growing city. Within a generation, unremarkable Kaitain had become an awesome spectacle of Imperial architecture, museums, and bureaucratic self-indulgence.
Salusa as a prison world#
According to Earl Dominic Vernius, the Corrinos took an ironic pleasure in turning the hellhole of Salusa Secundus into their private prison world. Meanwhile every member of House Tantor, or so it was thought, was hunted down and brought there to suffer horrible deaths.
