Poseidon's Princess was a mortal noblewoman held captive by the Sea God Poseidon as his unwilling concubine. Encountered by Kratos during his assault on Olympus, she became a brief and reluctant ally to the Ghost of Sparta, who freed her from her chains only to spend her life in the workings of the god's own chambers. She was sometimes confused with the goddess Amphitrite, the true wife of Poseidon, but the two were not the same.

A captive of Poseidon#

The princess's full history was never revealed. She was a noblewoman whom Poseidon enslaved to serve as his unwilling lover, keeping her shackled in his personal chambers. A letter found in those chambers, written by the god himself, suggested that he held some affection for her even as he turned his fury upon her. In it Poseidon begged her forgiveness for making her the subject of his rage, insisting that it was not she who had angered him but his brother and his refusal to harness the power hidden within the labyrinth, and that only the comfort of her arms gave him rest.

Freedom and death#

Kratos came upon the princess during his climb through the Mount Olympus stronghold, finding her chained and weeping in Poseidon's chamber. As he approached she cried for help, yet declared that she did not want it from him, fearing the Spartan's brutal reputation. Kratos cut her chains regardless and led her, still bound at the wrists, through the hallways, even saving her from falling into a pit of spikes. He then used her to hold up a crank, fixing her in place to keep two great doors open. After Kratos passed through, the weight of the crank descended and crushed her. She was a tragic figure, a victim of the powerful gods and warriors who sought only to use her.
