Kolibri: the Psychic Hive-Mind Replikas of Signalis
Kolibri units are small, highly bioresonant Replikas who serve as adjutants to a Falke commander and share their thoughts as a cadre. At S-23 Sierpinski almost all of them have gone wrong, and the one who hasn't is hiding alone in the library.
Kolibri is the nickname of the KLBR model, the most powerful bioresonant Replika the Eusan Nation builds outside its commanders. Kolibris are small, 152 cm tall, and serve in cadres as adjutants to a Falke unit, reading minds and passing thoughts between themselves. At S-23 Sierpinski nearly all of them have degraded into one of the game's strangest enemies. The name is German for hummingbird. (Signalis)
What are Kolibri units?#
The classified KLBR overview calls the model "a marvel of modern technology" and "the most capable Bioresonance unit ever produced". Every Protektor command's Falke is backed by a cadre of Kolibris who boost her bioresonant signals and produce their own. They can influence the minds of Replikas and Gestalts, extract information without speaking, and "communicate among themselves instantly in the full bandwidth of the senses". (Signalis, "Replika Overview: KLBR")
The matching Known Issues file is a warning. Kolibri neural patterns are very unstable and their bioresonance makes them easy to influence. They tend to soak up the emotions around them and broadcast them back. The constant exchange inside a cadre works like a safety net, "however, once a majority of units in a Cadre degrade, they will drag remaining units down with them", so degrading units should be decommissioned at once. For stability they need access to a well-stocked library. (Signalis, "Replika Known Issues, Part 4")
Kolibri at S-23 Sierpinski#
A note left in the facility shows a Kolibri doing her job: "Keep an eye on Adler. He's hiding something from us." When she probed his mind she found memories of an LSTR unit working at Sierpinski, though there was no record of one ever being deployed there; an order for one had been considered for survey work in the mine but dropped because of the commander's sickness. Adler's diary, for his part, complains about arguing with Kolibri and later about her storming out of a meeting. (Signalis, "Kolibri's Note"; Signalis, "Adler's Diary")
As the sickness spread, the Storch controller Sieben wrote that without the commander, "we will have to ask Kolibri for help" to keep Adler in check. By the time Elster arrives, that hope is gone. (Signalis)
Fighting a corrupted Kolibri#
Degraded Kolibris appear surrounded by illusory copies of themselves, their heads grotesquely swollen, and their presence fills the screen with German text and loud radio static. Some of the text is lifted from the poem in The King in Yellow and from the Book of Revelation; other flashes say "who are you?", "give up" and "die". (Signalis)
A note about a Kolibri holed up in the seventh-floor management office gives the solution away. The writer felt their mind "assaulted by the image of that island" from a painting in the room and wonders whether "some sort of feedback loop of the frequency of her control signal" might neutralise her. Elster can do exactly that by tuning her radio to the frequency shown on screen. (Signalis, "Kolibri in the Management Office")
The last Kolibri in the library#
One Kolibri at S-23 never degraded. Elster finds her in the library, which fits the Known Issues advice. "The others... they've changed. We no longer sing in unison," she says. She used to see into their minds; now she can't. "They're still together, and I am here outside. And they won't let me in." She can't stand their song, the library is the only place she doesn't hear it, and she half wishes she'd become like them so she wouldn't be alone. (Signalis)
Kolibri outside S-23#
Kolibris don't only serve in facilities. In Rotfront, the Blockwart, or block warden, of Sektor C is a Kolibri, KLBR-R16-04. Her inbox holds a seasonal review warning that she may be "marked for replacement", a tip-off about an imperial spy in her district, and emails from the Yeong photo shop and the Itou bookshop. (Signalis)
What the game doesn't say#
The game never names the Gestalt the Kolibri pattern was copied from, and never says which Kolibri degraded first. Fans have proposed candidates from the archived medical records, but these are guesses. (Signalis)
Frequently asked questions
- What is a Kolibri in Signalis?
- A Kolibri (KLBR) is a Generation 6 bioresonance specialist Replika. Kolibris serve as adjutants to a Falke commander, read and influence minds, and share memories and emotions within their cadre like a hive mind.
- How do you kill the Kolibri in Signalis?
- Corrupted Kolibris surround themselves with illusions and flood the screen with text. A note in S-23 hints at the fix: tune Elster's radio to the frequency shown on screen to break the signal. Hitting the real one with a weapon also works.
- Who is the Kolibri in the library?
- The only Kolibri at S-23 who hasn't degraded. She tells Elster the others "no longer sing in unison", that she can't bear their song, and that the library is the only place she feels safe.
- What does Kolibri mean?
- Kolibri is German for hummingbird. KLBR stands for Kommando-Leiteinheit Bioresonanztechnik-Replika.

Followed from this entry
Adler: the Administrator Who Remembers the Loop
Adler is the ADLR administrator of S-23 Sierpinski, the Replika who throws Elster down a lift shaft and later blocks her at the red gate. His diaries show a bored bureaucrat slowly realising that the same days keep repeating, and that Elster has been here before.

Elster: the Replika Who Crossed Leng to Keep a Promise
Elster, unit LSTR-512, is the Replika you play in Signalis. She wakes on a crashed ship, searches a dying labour facility for someone she can't quite remember, and slowly works out that the person she lost is Ariane Yeong, the pilot she served with on the Penrose-512.
Falke: the Commander Who Looked Beyond the Red Gate
Falke is the FKLR unit who commanded the Protektors of S-23 Sierpinski and the final boss of Signalis. She crossed the red gate in the mines, came back sick, and was slowly overwritten by Elster's memories until she could no longer tell the two of them apart.
Storch: the Tall Protektor Controllers of Signalis
Storch units are the STCR controllers who command squads of Protektor guards. Corrupted Storches are the toughest regular enemies in Signalis, while the one who held on, Sieben, is still sitting in the rationing office waiting for orders that will never come.
Bioresonance in Signalis: the Power Behind Replikas, Falke and Kolibri
Bioresonance is the mind's ability to change the physical world, and in Signalis it runs everything from Replika production to the Falke commanders. Here is what the game's documents actually say about it, and where the popular theories about Ariane begin.
Replika: the Artificial People of Signalis Explained
Replikas are the biomechanical people the Eusan Nation builds by copying the minds of chosen humans. They do its labour, its policing and its commanding. Here is how they are made, what each model does, and why they fall apart.

AEON in Signalis: the Organisation That Runs S-23 Sierpinski
AEON is the Eusan Nation body that relocates workers, runs facilities like S-23 Sierpinski and stands behind the Protektors. The game never explains it in one place, so this page sticks to what its documents actually say.
