The Aki Nuva is the Kanohi NuvaKanohi NuvaThe most powerful Masks of Power ever created, granting each Toa Nuva fundamentally enhanced abilities. Mask of Valor, the upgraded form of the AkiAkiThe Kanohi Aki was the Great Mask of Valor worn by Akamai, the Toa Kaita formed by Tahu, Onua, and Pohatu during the assault on the Manas. worn by the Toa KaitaToa KaitaTemporary fusion forms where three Toa merged into a single, vastly more powerful being. Rare in the Matoran Universe but instantly memorable. AkamaiAkamaiAkamai is a Toa Kaita and member of the Toa Nuva, formed from the combined essence of three Toa, who serves as a guardian of the Matoran. Born of Artakha, Akamai wields the Great Aki Nuva and commands enhanced powers of Fire, Stone, and Earth alongside Enhanced Valor, and carries Magma Swords, a Kodan Ball, and Feet Additions into battle, clad in red, brown, and black.. The guides set out how it would work, but the mask itself never appears in the story, and since the KanohiKanohiMasks that grant powers and sustain life, they're the most vital artifact in the Matoran Universe. Ignika changed TahuTahu (2001)Tahu was the Toa Mata of Fire and leader of the team, from his first landing on Ta-Wahi Beach to the destruction of Teridax's Rahkshi army on Bara Magna with the Golden Armor. back into a form of his Toa Mata self, it can no longer be formed at all. Formation rules#

The Aki Nuva has two possible origins. A destined KanohiKanohiMasks that grant powers and sustain life, they're the most vital artifact in the Matoran Universe. Aki immersed in Energized ProtodermisEnergized ProtodermisA sentient substance that could remake or annihilate any being that touched it. One of the Matoran Universe's most lethal hazards. would turn into one, or a Hau NuvaHau NuvaThe Hau Nuva was the Toa Nuva variant of the Mask of Shielding, capable of protecting both wearer and nearby allies from anticipated physical attack., a Kakama NuvaKakama NuvaThe Toa Nuva's mask of speed could make its wearer cross vast distances and vibrate through solid matter. and a Pakari NuvaPakari NuvaThe upgraded Kanohi that let Toa boost their strength to superhuman levels, created through Energized Protodermis. could be merged into it. Its wearer would get enhanced Shielding, Strength and Speed, could switch each power on separately, and could share them with those nearby. Only Toa NuvaToa NuvaThe form the Toa Mata took after stepping into the Energized Protodermis beneath the Bahrag, with new masks, new tools, and the elemental scale to fight Karda Nui. and Toa Nuva Kaita could use it. The intended Kaita#

The wearer would have been Akamai Nuva. The other Toa Nuva Kaita did form. When LewaLewaToa of Air, member of the Toa Mata and Toa Nuva, whose career was marked by repeated possession, body theft, and aerial campaigns from Le-Wahi to Karda Nui. struggled against the Bohrok-Kal, he joined with KopakaKopakaKopaka was the Toa Nuva of Ice, the loner of the Toa Mata, and one of the six warriors created on Artakha to protect the Great Spirit Mata Nui. and Gali to become WairuhaWairuhaWairuha is a Toa Kaita and member of the Toa Nuva, native to Artakha, who serves as a Guardian of the Matoran. Wearing the Great Rua Nuva, Wairuha wields enhanced powers of Air, Water, and Ice alongside Enhanced Wisdom, and carries the Air Katana and Aqua Axes. Nuva, wearer of the Rua Nuva, only to be overwhelmed when the Bohrok-Kal merged in turn. Akamai Nuva never had a moment like that in the story. (BIONICLE 11: A Matter of Time...)

The Ignika and the closure of the path#

Late in the story, the Mask of LifeThe Mask of Life (Kanohi Ignika), explainedA failsafe forged by the Great Beings to recharge a god. It curses everyone who touches it, and by the end of Bionicle it had learned how to be a hero. changed Tahu back into a version of his Toa Mata form on Bara Magna and gave him the Golden Armor.
