Great Mask of Shielding
The Hau Nuva was the Toa Nuva variant of the Mask of Shielding, capable of protecting both wearer and nearby allies from anticipated physical attack.

Powers and limitations#
The Hau Nuva generated a shielding field capable of deflecting most physical attacks directed at the user or anyone within close proximity. Falling debris, energy blasts, and direct blows shattered against the field on contact. The shield did not anticipate danger; activation required the wearer's recognition of imminent harm.
Two principal limitations defined its use. Attacks against which the bearer was unaware bypassed the field entirely, leaving blind spots and rear approaches as standing vulnerabilities. The shield also offered no defense against mental attack or molecular disruption such as that wielded by the Bohrok-KalBohrok-KalSix elite Bohrok designed to free the imprisoned Bahrag, they nearly defeated the Toa Nuva before the Toa turned their own powers against them.. The mask was effective only against direct, physical threats the wearer could perceive in time to react.
Range varied with the bearer's focus and the number of allies being protected. The field was best suited to compact group defense rather than wide-area protection of dispersed targets.
