Bara Magna was no ordinary world. It was a desert fragment broken from a larger planet millennia ago, where AgoriAgoriThe villager species of Bara Magna, organised by tribe and settlement, who governed their villages and arranged the Glatorian arena system. and GlatorianGlatorianTribal warriors of Spherus Magna who settled disputes through arena combat, until the Skrall conquest enslaved most of them. warriors fought for scarce water and tribal dominance rather than confronting world-ending threats. Before Mata NuiMata NuiBuilt by the Great Beings to restore Spherus Magna, Mata Nui sustained an entire civilisation inside his body, was deposed by Teridax, and reclaimed his purpose as a mortal on Bara Magna. arrived, this sandy wasteland was ruled by a harsh code: resource control meant survival. The major tribes carved out territories and fought endlessly over wells and fertile ground.

The defining conflict of Bara Magna's recent history was the Core War, a centuries-long struggle between the Rock TribeRock TribeThe dominant warrior civilization of Bara Magna, built on brutal expansion and ruled by Tuma until internal betrayal and the Skrall's defeat disbanded it. When Mata NuiMata NuiBuilt by the Great Beings to restore Spherus Magna, Mata Nui sustained an entire civilisation inside his body, was deposed by Teridax, and reclaimed his purpose as a mortal on Bara Magna. arrived, he didn't restore peace through wisdom or compassion. He simply ended the war by forcing both tribes to unite against a common threat. Bara Magna's tribalism dissolved not through negotiation but through necessity.
