Mask of Conjuring
The Programmable Power Kanohi
A Kanohi that lets the wearer build a custom power on the fly, with a strict cooldown, a built-in weakness, and a backlash penalty for getting the words wrong.
The Mask of Conjuring was one of the more mechanically distinctive canonized-fan-KanohiKanohiMasks that grant powers and sustain life, they're the most vital artifact in the Matoran Universe.. The wearer describes a power in detail, names at least one weakness, and the mask grants that power for a fixed window. Correct wording produces a custom ability. Incorrect wording inflicts psychic backlash. Because the description must be spoken aloud, anyone within earshot also learns the counter, since the stated weakness is voiced alongside the power. The recorded entry lists exactly two wearers, neither of whom appears in a serial actually using the mask.
How the programmable power actually works#
The procedure is verbal. The wearer speaks the desired power in detail and must include at least one weakness as part of that description. If the phrasing is off, the mask responds with psychic backlash on the user. The mask is not a wish-granter; the spoken weakness is a binding cost of the power. That places a tighter constraint on the mask than most Great KanohiGreat KanohiThe most common mask type worn by Toa and other powerful beings, forged from the highest-grade Kanoka discs. carry.
Duration is locked. The Great version of the mask grants the programmed power for 15 minutes. After that window closes, there's a 30-second cooldown before the wearer can program another power. The Noble version of the mask only runs for 5 minutes per use. Those numbers are small enough that the mask is not a campaign-trivializer, and the cooldown discourages spamming.
The larger tactical problem is not the timer but the audience. The programming has to be spoken aloud, so anyone in earshot hears both the power and its weakness, which makes mid-fight use risky. The conjuring was best done alone. A wearer who programs a power in front of an enemy has effectively told the enemy how to counter it.
Known wearers#

Origin as a canonized fan submission#
The mask originated as a BZPower fan project that was later approved as official, the same path that brought the Mask of BiomechanicsMask of BiomechanicsA canonized fan-design with a clean technopathy power and almost no canon presence, the Mask of Biomechanics is a footnote that earns more attention than the lore ever gave it. and Mask of FusionMask of FusionA canonized fan-design Kanohi that lets the wearer forcibly merge themself with other beings into a single larger form, with strong-willed minds able to resist and only one unnamed Matoran on record as a wearer. into the canon. Its power was reportedly inspired by the nebulous shape of the mask together with the fact that "Matoran" doubles as the name of a real-world programming language, making the mask's name and mechanic a pun on its own community.
The 2006 category attached to the mask refers to its canonization timing rather than a narrative debut. The Mask of Conjuring did not appear in any 2006 story material; the year reflects when the design entered canon.
A design the canon never used#
The Mask of Conjuring carried tighter mechanics than most canonized-fan KanohiKanohiMasks that grant powers and sustain life, they're the most vital artifact in the Matoran Universe., yet no story drew on them. The mask shows that the canonized-fan tier could produce constraints as precise as anything in the main line, and the broader roster of canonized-fan masks holds several such KanohiKanohiMasks that grant powers and sustain life, they're the most vital artifact in the Matoran Universe. with detailed rules that never reached a published story.
