Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2: Release Date, Story and Everything Confirmed
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 arrives on Netflix on 20 October 2026: ten episodes, a standalone story and a new crew of characters. Here's everything Netflix, CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger have actually confirmed, from the cast and crew to the music, and what's still unknown.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is the second anime series set in the Night City of Cyberpunk 2077, made by Studio Trigger with CD Projekt Red, and it premieres on Netflix on 20 October 2026. It's ten episodes long and tells a new, standalone story with new characters, so it isn't a direct continuation of David's story from the first series. Everything on this page comes from Netflix, CD Projekt Red, Studio Trigger or press reports of their announcements. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiere date announced alongside new trailer)
Release date and episodes#
Edgerunners 2 premieres on Netflix on 20 October 2026. CD Projekt Red announced the date on 21 August 2026, with a new trailer, and confirmed again that it's a ten-episode standalone series. The road there was short. CD Projekt Red announced the series at an Anime Expo panel in Los Angeles on 4 July 2025, with a logo and poster art, and said it was in production for Netflix. A second teaser followed on 30 June 2026 with a release window of autumn 2026. What the story is about#
CD Projekt Red hasn't given much of a plot synopsis. The official Edgerunners account announced the series as a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge, and posed one question: when the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter? (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is in production)
The official site adds a little more. Weak, a washed-up legend, is forced to live without chrome as he looks for a sense of purpose, while the nomad D sets out on a path to revenge that brings him close to corpo secrets never meant to be found. It sums the series up as a story of family, obsession and legacy. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 character reveals)
The premiere date announcement describes it as a raw, human story of revenge and redemption, following a fresh ensemble whose stories intertwine as they fight their own battles across Night City. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiere date announced alongside new trailer)
Showrunner Bartosz Sztybor said at the announcement that David's story might be over but there was plenty more to discover in Night City, and promised something unlike what they had done before. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 officially announced)
Braindance looks like a theme. Several character reveals are built around it: Roman films real life while the rest of the city watches braindances, and two supporting characters, Sal Bigelow and Jessie, run and engineer braindances at a shop called Braindance Paradise. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 character reveals)
Characters and voice cast#
The four leads were revealed one by one through 2026, along with their Japanese and English voice casts. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 character reveals; Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiere date report, Anime News Network)
- Roman Carax: a young cinephile who documents the truth and shadows other people's lives. He chases real stories in a city that has given up film for braindance. Voiced by Momoka Terasawa (Japanese) and Valeria Rodriguez (English). (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 character reveals; Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiere date report, Anime News Network)
- D: a netrunner from the Snake Nation nomad clan, hunting the killer who wiped out his people. Voiced by Kōki Uchiyama and Nazeeh Tarsha. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 character reveals; Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiere date report, Anime News Network)
- Talia Yang: born corpo, fiercely independent, and drawn into Maelstrom's hyper-violent, chrome-obsessed culture. Voiced by Akari Kitō and Kimoy Lee. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 character reveals; Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiere date report, Anime News Network)
- Weak Kingsley: once a veteran edgerunner at the top of his game, now living in the shadow of his own glory. Voiced by Kentarō Tone and Clancy Brown. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 character reveals; Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiere date report, Anime News Network)
Supporting characters revealed so far include Avida, a former jazz singer, corpo insider and old flame of Weak's whose life now revolves around her daughter Talia; Kitano, an Arasaka corpo; Richard, who works for Kang Tao; and Kiril, Avida's husband and Talia's father, a Kang Tao executive. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 character reveals)
Who's making it#
Studio Trigger animates the series again, with CD Projekt Red. Kai Ikarashi makes his debut as director, taking over from Hiroyuki Imaishi, who directed the first series; Ikarashi worked on that series and on SSSS.Gridman. Kanno Ichigo is lead character designer. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 officially announced; Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 character reveals)
The story comes from the same pair as before: Bartosz Sztybor of CD Projekt Red, who is showrunner, story writer and producer, and Masahiko Otsuka, who adapts the screenplay. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 officially announced)
The music is confirmed too. The opening theme is "10:15 Saturday Night" by The Cure and the ending theme is "Watson" by Petite Meller. Rico Nasty wrote an original song for the show, "You Can't Run From Me", released in June 2026. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiere date report, Anime News Network; Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 gets new trailer and fall 2026 release window)
Trailers and first look#
There are two main trailers so far. The teaser released on 30 June 2026 set the autumn window, and the August 2026 trailer came with the premiere date. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 teaser trailer; Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiere date trailer)
The first episode has already been seen by a lucky few. At Anime Expo on 3 July 2026, CD Projekt Red held a panel with Sztybor, executive producer Saya Elder, Ikarashi and Nazeeh Tarsha, and screened episode one on condition it wasn't recorded or streamed. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 gets new trailer and fall 2026 release window)
About 6,000 people saw it, and CD Projekt Red later thanked them publicly for not leaking a single frame. (Edgerunners 2 Anime Expo screening report, PC Gamer)
How season one ended#
The first series ended with David Martinez dead. Pushed into Arasaka's prototype cyberskeleton and deep into cyberpsychosis, he got Lucy out of Arasaka Tower, then held off Adam Smasher so Falco could drive her away. Smasher killed Rebecca and then David. The final scene showed Lucy on the Moon, alone. The full story is in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners explained. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners)
That's why Sztybor's first line about the new series was that David's story might be over. Nothing announced so far suggests Lucy, Falco or anyone else from season one is coming back. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 officially announced)
What we still don't know#
Netflix and CD Projekt Red haven't said when in the timeline the series is set, whether any characters from the first series or from Cyberpunk 2077 appear, or whether the game will get tie-in content like the first series' update did. Treat anything beyond what's on this page as rumour until they confirm it. For the setting's wider history, see the Cyberpunk timeline.
