Lucy (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners)
Lucy is the netrunner at the heart of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an Arasaka escapee who dreamed of leaving Night City for the Moon. Here's her backstory, her relationship with David Martinez, what she was hiding, and how the series ends for her.
Lucy is the netrunner and co-lead of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, a quiet hacker in Maine's crew who sees Night City as a prison and wants to get to the Moon. She brings David Martinez into the merc life, falls in love with him, and spends the second half of the series secretly protecting him from Arasaka. She survives, and the show's last scene shows her on the Moon. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners)
Who is Lucy?#
Lucy is cool, quiet and doesn't talk about herself. She's deadly both in the Net and out of it, using a monowire, a cutting cable hidden in her arm, when a fight gets physical. She keeps a deep-dive port hidden under her hair. When David first meets her she's working the train into the corporate centre, lifting data shards from commuters. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners)
The show never gives her surname. Showrunner Rafał Jaki confirmed in 2022 that her full name is Lucyna Kushinada, and that he made her half Polish and half Japanese after his own mother. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners reveals Lucy's full name and the significance behind it)
R. Talsorian's Edgerunners Mission Kit fills in her early life in Warsaw. Her father, Takeshi Kushinada, was a Fourth Corporate War veteran posted to Arasaka's Warsaw garrison, and her mother, Shimmer, had been a netrunner. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Mission Kit)
Lucy's backstory: what Arasaka did to her#
Lucy tells David her story under the stars in the Badlands in "Stronger." As a child she was put through Arasaka testing and sent with a dozen other children to a netrunning programme. Once trained, they were sent underground to dive into the old Net, wrecked since the DataKrash, to recover lost data. Rogue AIs and old programs out there killed the children off. The survivors turned on their handlers and ran, and Lucy was the only one who made it out alive. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners)
That's why she's scared of Arasaka, why she hates being made to live someone else's dream, and why she keeps running. The Moon is the one place she thinks might be far enough. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners)
Lucy and David#
In "Like a Boy," David catches Lucy stealing on the train, and she takes him on as a partner. She later shows him a braindance of a walk on the Moon, but she has also tipped off Maine about the Sandevistan David is carrying, and the crew turns up at her flat while he sleeps. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners)
After Pilar's death in "Lucky You," she admits the braindance was a real moment. David promises to take her to the Moon, and they get together. When Kiwi is put out of action, Lucy reluctantly dives into the captured Arasaka executive Tanaka's mind, and what she finds changes everything. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners)
What was Lucy hiding?#
Inside Tanaka's head Lucy found data that would have put David in Arasaka's sights as a test subject for its cyberskeleton project, which needed someone with his tolerance for chrome. She corrupted the data and told the crew there was nothing there. For months afterwards she kept away from jobs, hunting down and killing the netrunners trying to recover it. She never told David. The secrecy, and David's refusal to stop adding chrome, put a strain on their relationship until he suggested they split. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners)
How does Edgerunners end for Lucy?#
Kiwi and Faraday catch Lucy, pull what she knew out of her memory, and fake a call in her voice telling David to put on the cyberskeleton. She breaks free long enough to warn him, too late. David storms Arasaka Tower, grabs her and leaps from the building. Lucy brings him back from cyberpsychosis with a kiss as they fall. Then Adam Smasher arrives. Her hacks bounce off him, and Falco drags her away as David holds Smasher off. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners)
In the final scene she's on the Moon on a lunar tour. She steps away to the place they'd seen in the braindance, sees David for a moment, and turns to face the sun. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners)
Lucy in Cyberpunk 2077#
Lucy doesn't appear in Cyberpunk 2077, but her words do. The niches for David, Rebecca and the rest of the crew at the North Oak Columbarium carry her epitaphs. David's says he didn't take her to the Moon, but he was there with her. (Cyberpunk 2077)
Nothing announced so far brings her back in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. CD Projekt Red describes the 20 October 2026 series as a 10-episode standalone story with a fresh cast of characters. (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiere date announced alongside new trailer)
Frequently asked questions

- Yes. The final scene of the series shows her on a lunar tour after David's death. She walks off to the spot from their first braindance together and sees a vision of him.
