Hayt
the first Duncan Idaho ghola
Hayt was the name given to the first Duncan Idaho ghola, grown by the Bene Tleilax and presented to Emperor Paul Atreides as a gift that concealed a weapon. Trained as a mentat, he came to love Alia Atreides before recovering his original memories in the crisis that followed Chani's death.
Hayt was the name given to the first in the long series of Duncan Idaho gholas produced by the Bene Tleilax. Grown from the cells of the original Duncan Idaho and presented to Emperor Paul Atreides, Hayt served at court on Arrakis before the restoration of his original memories ended his time under that name.
A gift that hid a weapon#
Hayt was given to Emperor Paul Atreides as a gift, but he was secretly a tool intended to kill the Emperor. Paul understood this and accepted the gift regardless. Although he was a ghola, grown from the cells of the dead, Hayt had been trained as a mentat and exercised those calculating abilities a number of times during his service. The name itself derived from the Arabic word for life.
Love and restoration#
During his time on Arrakis, Hayt developed a love for Paul's younger sister, Alia Atreides, who was at the time struggling against the genetic remnant of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen within her own being. Idaho shed the name Hayt when his original memories were restored during a deadly encounter involving the Padishah Emperor Paul Atreides and the Tleilaxu Face Dancer Scytale, in the aftermath of the death of Paul's concubine Chani. With his first life recovered, he was no longer Hayt but Duncan Idaho once more.
