Eleonora was a mortal temple maiden of Laconia, charged with the care of the many interconnected temples of that Spartan region. Born to a family long bound to such service, she tended the shrines of the gods alone, and crossed paths with Kratos and his brother Deimos as they sought the divine gifts kept within her temples.
Keeper of the Laconian temples#
The long strain of Sparta's wars reached even into the worship of the gods. As resources grew scarce, the rites adapted, and the care of the interconnected temples of Laconia fell to a single maiden rather than many. Eleonora was born to that task, descended from a family known for such service, a legacy she carried with something less than complete comfort. Alone she maintained the shrines, repairing the damage done to them and preserving the gifts entrusted to the gods.
Encounters with Kratos and Deimos#
Eleonora met Kratos and Deimos as the brothers passed through the temples in search of the warrior Vasilis. At the Temple of Hestia she questioned them on the meaning of the sacred branch that bore the Evergreen Flame before allowing them to take it, telling them it symbolized the duty owed to home. At the Temple of Nike she pressed them on the worth of the Victory Sandals, reminding them that true leadership demanded sacrifice and the wisdom to know when the price of victory was too high.
At the Temple of Artemis she granted them the Lunar Blade only after asking whether they truly needed it, counselling that the goddess did not hunt for renown alone but bound her hunters to win with honour and humility. At the Temple of Demeter she gave them the Harvest Glaive, observing that the harvest fed all and not one alone. Through each exchange she also spoke of her own life. She confided that she remained in the temples out of duty, that she often wondered about the path she had not taken, and that the gifts she guarded reminded her of the personal harvest she had never been allowed. Even so, she held that the choice to serve, made amid the greater needs of tradition, had still been her own.
