Eos was the goddess of the dawn, sister of Helios the sun and daughter of the Titan Hyperion. When her brother vanished and an endless sleep fell upon the earth, Eos, fading with the missing sun, called upon Kratos to find Helios and restore the day.
Goddess of the dawn#
Eos was the goddess of the dawn, sister of Helios the sun and a daughter of the elder solar Titan Hyperion. Numbered among the second generation of Titan gods, she rose into the sky at the start of each day, and with her rays of light she dispersed the mists of night. She dwelt in the Caves of Mount Olympus and was bound in loyalty to Olympus, sharing some measure of her power with her brother, with whom her light and fire held a severe effect upon the dark creatures of the Underworld.
The endless sleep#
When Helios disappeared, Morpheus seized the chance to take hold of the earth, and all the world fell into an endless sleep. Barely holding on, Eos called upon Kratos to find her brother, telling him to seek the Sun Shield. Kratos spoke with her face to face in the Caves of Olympus, where she advised him to seek out the Primordial Fire to help him in his quest. She was revealed to be deeply dependent on her brother's power, and as the sun stayed dark she slowly began to lose all of her own. She promised Kratos that, in gratitude, Helios would implore Zeus to rid him of the cursed visions that plagued his mind, but that promise turned out to be empty.
Fate#
After Helios was restored, Eos passed from the affairs of the gods, though her name endured in the Path of Eos within Mount Olympus, a passage revealed only through the head of Helios that led toward the Chain of Balance. Her ultimate fate is unknown, for it remains uncertain whether she survived the later death of her brother and the final disappearance of the sun that her own power so closely depended upon.
