- Gali fell from the sky during the Gathering of the Protectors and landed in the Region of Water, where Kivoda guided her for weeks toward the shrine. They were attacked by Skull Spiders at the shrine, and while Kivoda held off the horde with his Elemental Blaster and was nearly overpowered, Gali reached the mask, donned it, and cleared the Skull Spiders.

- When Gali donned the Golden Mask of Water, her starter Shark Fins transformed into the Elemental Trident, a weapon that could control water and create tidal waves and heavy rains. The Trident could be split back into the Shark Fins for travel and converted into a Harpoon for ranged use.
- What did the Golden Mask of Water do for Gali?
- The mask conferred full command of Gali's element, replacing the fragmentary capabilities she had used before with full Toa-grade output. It also carried a one-directional telepathic channel through which Ekimu, asleep in his tomb, projected his voice to direct the team toward his resting place after the Lord of Skull Spiders was defeated.
- What happened to the Golden Mask of Water?
- At the Mask Makers' Forge, Kulta wore the Mask of Creation and wielded his Mask Stealer Staff to overpower all six Toa, shattering the Golden Mask of Water alongside the other five. Ekimu reforged the entire set from the fragments after defeating Kulta, and Gali received the restored mask, functionally identical to the original.
