The hammer played its part in one of Okoto's defining moments. The resulting blast opened a rift that drew Capital City and Makuta into the Shadow Realm, while Ekimu was left in a coma.

Armed with a Mask Stealer Staff and Hook Blade, he possessed the ability to drain masks of their Elemental Powers and once held both the powerless Skull Mask and the Mask of Creation., who had seized the Mask of Creation. With his hammer lost, Ekimu told the ToaToa (2001)Biomechanical heroes bonded to elemental powers and masks. Not born, but chosen and transformed. to distract Kulta while he searched his forge for pieces to build a new Hammer of Power. Once it was rebuilt, he used it to fire Elemental Gatling blasts and to knock the Mask of Creation from the Skull Grinder's face, reclaiming the mask and repairing the Golden Masks of Power.
In a later confrontation with Kulta in the city of the Skull Raiders, the two agreed to single combat on the condition that Ekimu would not use the Hammer of Power. Honoring the terms, Ekimu instead borrowed OnuaOnuaOnua was the Toa Mata and Toa Nuva of Earth, a quiet, deliberate warrior whose patience and underground mastery anchored his team across the Matoran Universe.'s Earthquake Hammer and used it to defeat Kulta. The Hammer of Power continued to serve Ekimu as both forging tool and weapon, alongside the Saw Shield he carried for protection and flight.
