With the help of Izotor, the Protector of Ice, he spent weeks crossing the region in search of the Golden Mask of Ice, fighting Skull Spiders along the way. When hundreds of them came after the pair, Izotor had to teach Kopaka how to use his frost shield and his mask's binocular lens, since he remembered neither. The descent, the tunnel, and the tomb of Ekimu#

Inside the city, Tahu set off a trap and Skull Warriors rose from the ground to attack. Kopaka held up his shield to protect the others until Lewa, back from scouting, knocked the attackers off their perch. When Lewa wanted to explore an arena he had found, Kopaka refused and then ordered him to stay with the group. Lewa went anyway, and the Toa, lost under Kopaka's direction, found him unconscious and his mask stolen by Skull SlicerSkull SlicerA former arena victor who drains masks of their power as Kulta's lieutenant.. In the arena, Kopaka saved Onua from being crushed between two pillars, and he, Onua and Tahu beat Skull Slicer and won Lewa's mask back. The arena then collapsed on all of them. Trapped under the rubble, the Toa talked over their journey and agreed that their duty was to protect Okoto. Lewa felt a breeze coming through the rocks, and Onua broke them out. They came out in a graveyard, where a pair of Skull Scorpios snatched Pohatu's mask. Kopaka shielded Pohatu while the rest fought, and Lewa ended the fight by dropping a huge statue on the Scorpios. Umarak was then remade as Makuta's Destroyer and raised the Shadow Horde. Kopaka was the team's cold edge. His strict moral code made him calm and reserved, and the pressure he put on himself as a perfectionist often made him seem cold to the others. He's also a bit clumsy, with a poor sense of direction, which fits the time he led the team astray in the Ancient City.
