Lewa wanted to explore the arena, and Kopaka told him to stick to the mission. Lewa ignored him and flew there alone. As he studied carvings of an ancient arena game, Skull SlicerSkull SlicerA former arena victor who drains masks of their power as Kulta's lieutenant. ambushed him and took his Golden Mask, and Lewa collapsed unconscious. The others found him and carried him into the arena, where Skull Slicer put on the mask and began draining his energy. Lewa told them the aim of the game, to hit a lever at the top of the field, and the team won, defeating Skull Slicer and recovering the mask, though Onua brought the whole arena down in the process. In the rubble, Lewa noticed a breeze through the rocks that pointed to a tunnel, and Onua dug the team out into a graveyard. Later, the Toa set out on a rescue mission into the mountains. A Skull Spider-controlled hawk seized Lewa, and he lost his mask and one of his axes as it carried him to the city of the Skull RaidersSkull RaidersThe ancient pirate band that plagued Okoto before the Mask Makers, was driven into the mountains, allied itself with Makuta, was trapped beneath the island by the cataclysm at Capital City, and dug its way back as the Skull Creatures under Kulta., where he was held with two captured Okotan children. The Raider commander AxatoAxatoAxato is a Skull Creature from the island of Okoto who served as the leader of the Skull Creatures in the City of the Mask Makers. Armed with a spear, Axato possessed the ability to drain masks of their Elemental Powers and formerly wore a powerless Skull Mask. challenged Gali to unarmed combat for the prisoners and lost, and the captives were freed in a battle that ended when Ekimu brought the Raiders' city down on them. Working out that the Hunter was weaker near light, Lewa beat him, and once Umarak fled he finished the race and claimed his Golden Unity Mask at the temple, gaining the power to merge with Uxar. Back in the city, Lewa warned the others of Umarak's attack. The Jungle region was the first to feel the transformed Umarak's Shadow Horde, and Lewa was devastated to find a jungle village in ruins. To his surprise, the Toa then had to leave their creatures to defend the city with the Okotans while they and a powered-up Ekimu went to stop Umarak from freeing Makuta. The Dark Portal and the second banishment#

Along the way, Lewa grew irritated whenever a teammate said the job would be easy. They faced Umarak outside a portal to the Shadow RealmShadow DimensionAn alternate dimension sealed forever after Makuta was pulled in by the Mask of Ultimate Power's destruction, then trapped by the Toa's combined elemental assault., where MakutaMakuta (2015)Ekimu's brother and rival Mask Maker, who forged the forbidden Mask of Ultimate Power and was sealed in the Shadow Realm with Capital City. was trapped, and had to fight without powers or weapons.
