Mystery surrounded Hwi's early life. She was heavily genetically modified, or sequenced, by the Ixians using technology they had acquired from the Bene Tleilax. She was bred specifically to impact the God Emperor's emotions and disrupt the Golden Path that had, for three and a half thousand years, weighed heavily on many rival groups and cultures across the Empire. As the pair passed over a bridge far above the raging Idaho River on their way to the ceremony, Duncan Idaho, Siona, the unsuspecting Nayla, and other rebels orchestrated an attack that collapsed the bridge. Realizing her fate, Hwi Noree told Leto that she would go on ahead of him, and fell to her death. Leto followed quickly after, dissolving into thousands of sandtrout as he hit the water.
