Judy Alvarez: the Braindance Techie of the Mox

Judy Alvarez is a braindance editor with the Mox, Evelyn Parker's best friend and one of Cyberpunk 2077's four romances. This covers her past, the fight for Clouds, the dive at Laguna Bend and how her story ends with each choice.

By Joe Garratt

Judy Alvarez is a braindance techie in Cyberpunk 2077, an editor who works out of the basement of Lizzie's Bar for the Mox gang and the closest friend of Evelyn Parker. She first meets V when Evelyn brings V to her to study a recording before the Konpeki Plaza heist, and after that heist goes wrong she becomes one of V's closest allies. She's a romance option for a V with a feminine body and voice, and her side jobs have some of the hardest choices in the game. (Cyberpunk 2077)

Who Judy is: Laguna Bend and the Mox#

Judy grew up in Laguna Bend, a small town on the edge of Night City, raised by her grandparents after her mother died. Her grandfather was a techie and taught her what she knows. When a dam company bought the area, the residents were pushed out and the town was flooded to make a reservoir. Judy and her grandparents moved into the city, and when they left for Oregon she stayed. (Cyberpunk 2077)

She worked as a braindance tech at Clouds, a doll house in Japantown, where she met Evelyn and started a relationship with Maiko Maeda. She later moved to Lizzie's Bar and joined the Mox, a gang that formed to protect sex workers. She believes in them and in the idea that people in Night City can still look after each other. (Cyberpunk 2077)

Evelyn and the heist#

Evelyn came to Judy before the heist with a favour: help scroll a braindance of Yorinobu Arasaka to find the Relic. Judy taught V to read and edit braindances and warned that whatever they were planning would get them both killed. (Cyberpunk 2077, "The Information")

She was right to worry. After the heist, Evelyn vanished. She had been abused at Clouds and then passed to the ripperdoc Fingers, who sold her to Scavengers for black-market braindances. V and Judy tracked her down through Fingers and a braindance dealer and got her out, but she never recovered, and later took her own life in Judy's bathtub. Judy called V, and the two moved her body to the bed so the police would find her with more dignity. (Cyberpunk 2077, "Disasterpiece"; "Double Life")

The fight for Clouds#

Evelyn's death pushes Judy to act. She wants to free Clouds from the Tyger Claws and its owner, Hiromi Sato, and give it to the dolls. Over pizza in her flat, she, V, Maiko and two dolls plan the takeover. (Cyberpunk 2077, "Talkin' 'bout a Revolution")

At the meeting with the Tyger Claw bosses, Maiko switches sides and offers a deal: Clouds goes to her, under Tyger Claw protection. This is the big choice in Judy's story. (Cyberpunk 2077, "Pisces")

  • Take Maiko's money. Hiromi dies, Maiko gets the club, and Judy is furious. She leaves, texts V that she's quitting Night City and cuts contact. Her story ends here. (Cyberpunk 2077, "Pisces")
  • Go along with Maiko but refuse the money. Maiko still gets Clouds. Judy is disappointed but grateful V wasn't bought, and her story carries on. (Cyberpunk 2077, "Pisces")
  • Turn on the Tyger Claws. V fights the bosses. If V kills Maiko too, Judy is shaken. If V spares her, Judy is grateful to V. Either way her story carries on. (Cyberpunk 2077, "Pisces")

Pyramid Song: the dive at Laguna Bend#

If V didn't take the bribe, Judy invites V to the reservoir where her hometown used to be. The two dive to the drowned streets of Laguna Bend, and Judy links them to record a shared braindance. V blacks out underwater, and she gets them both back to the surface. Afterwards Johnny Silverhand voices his doubts about her. (Cyberpunk 2077, "Pyramid Song")

That night is where the romance starts or doesn't. A V who fits her preferences can kiss her. Otherwise Judy tells V the next morning that she's leaving Night City, gives V the keys to her flat and later sends pictures from Oregon and further north. (Cyberpunk 2077, "Pyramid Song")

Judy in each ending#

Judy's place in the endings depends on whether V romanced her and who V asks for help on the final night. (Cyberpunk 2077, "Nocturne Op55N1")

  • The Star. If romanced, Judy is brought to the Aldecaldos camp and leaves Night City with V. It's the only ending where the two stay together. (Cyberpunk 2077, "All Along the Watchtower")
  • The Sun. V wakes in the penthouse with her, but she can't stand the city or watching V's time run out, and she leaves. (Cyberpunk 2077, "Path of Glory")
  • The Devil. V can call her from the Arasaka orbital station. She's glad the chip is out, horrified V trusted Arasaka, and asks V to come home. (Cyberpunk 2077, "Where is My Mind?")
  • Temperance. With Johnny in V's body, there's no more contact. Her video message in the credits worries that V is ghosting her. (Cyberpunk 2077, "New Dawn Fades")

If V finished "Pyramid Song" without a romance, Judy still sends a friendly video message in the credits of most endings. (Cyberpunk 2077)

Frequently asked questions

Can male V romance Judy?
No. Judy is only romanceable by a V with a feminine body type and a feminine voice. A V who doesn't fit can still do her whole questline as a friend.
How do you romance Judy Alvarez?
Finish her side jobs through "Pisces" without taking Maiko's money, then kiss her at the end of "Pyramid Song" at the Laguna Bend reservoir. Taking the bribe in "Pisces" ends her story early.
Which ending is best for Judy?
The Star. If V is romancing her, she meets V at the Aldecaldos camp and leaves Night City with V. It's the only ending where the relationship carries on.
What happened to Evelyn Parker?
After the Konpeki Plaza heist, Evelyn was attacked, abused and sold to Scavengers. V and Judy rescued her, but she later took her own life in Judy's apartment.
Is Judy Alvarez in Phantom Liberty?
She doesn't have a role in the expansion's story. Her own questline is in the main game.
