Marcus Claire Luyseyal was a Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother and a Truthsayer. Despite her youth she was held to be the finest Truthsayer of the Sisterhood during the final years of the God Emperor Leto Atreides II. She had red hair and was often compared in appearance to the long-dead Reverend Mother Jessica Atreides.
Seeking an audience on Arrakis#
In 13725 AG, Marcus Claire Luyseyal travelled to Arrakis with Tertius Eileen Anteac, seeking an audience with Leto Atreides II timed to coincide with the Royal Festival held every ten years. The two received a message from Othwi Yake, Assistant to the Ixian Ambassador, that Face Dancers had infiltrated the Ixian Embassy and intended to assassinate the God Emperor. Anteac and Luyseyal tried to warn him, but the message did not reach his convoy in time. The plot nonetheless failed, as the two sisters had expected it would.
Meeting the God Emperor#
Anteac and Luyseyal won their audience and were present as Leto allotted the melange allowances for the coming decade. During the meeting, Anteac sought to distract the God Emperor while Luyseyal injected him with a vial of concentrated Spice essence. The attempt failed, yet Leto declined to alter the Bene Gesserit allotment, finding the scheme amusing.
He reminded Luyseyal of a lesson drawn from past over-machined societies, that the devices themselves conditioned their users to employ one another as they employed machines. Luyseyal admitted that the Ixians and the Tleilaxu had formed an alliance with each other and with the Spacing Guild, and that they sought the cooperation of the Sisterhood. In the heated discussion that followed she let slip that the Ixians were creating a machine able to predict Leto's actions. The God Emperor was unconcerned, judging their machines incapable of supplanting a human mind, still less his own mind of three and a half thousand years. He bade the two relay to Reverend Mother Syaksa that he preferred the company of predators to that of prey.
