Margot Fenring

Lady Margot Fenring was the Bene Gesserit wife of the Mentat Count Hasimir Fenring. Although she superficially fell under the influence of House Corrino, Margot served the Sisterhood to many ends, and after the vast reduction of Bene Gesserit influence following the ascension of House Atreides, she and her husband dedicated themselves to their own purposes.

A servant of the Sisterhood#

The beautiful and cunning Lady Margot Fenring was a powerful and important member of the Bene Gesserit whose ultimate loyalty lay with the Order. She was renowned for superhuman abilities of observation and awareness and noted for supreme skill in seduction and sexual imprinting. Like other members of her Order, she held complete charge of her own physiology and could control the physical sex of her offspring. A willowy lady with golden hair, gray-green eyes, and a perfect figure, she carried the Bene Gesserit serene repose that Feyd-Rautha called subtly disturbing. An adept political player, she was entrusted by her Order with multiple secretive missions and served as one of the Bene Gesserit's breeders within the crossbreeding program designed to produce the Kwisatz Haderach.

Marriage to Hasimir Fenring#

The Sisterhood frequently had its members become wives or concubines to major political figures, and so it arranged Margot's marriage to Count Hasimir Fenring, ruler of House Fenring, a House Minor long aligned with House Corrino. The Count was a deadly fighter and assassin and a close friend of the Emperor, and he had once been a possible Kwisatz Haderach candidate, though he was born sterile. Margot trained him in some of her Order's ways, giving him acute observational skills. While at the court of Shaddam Corrino IV, she persuaded the Emperor to marry the Reverend Mother Anirul, whom the Sisterhood knew would yield House Corrino no sons.

The warning on Arrakis#

Margot was with her husband on Arrakis when he served as the planet's temporary governor during the handoff between House Harkonnen and House Atreides. Before departing, she left a coded note for her fellow Order member, Lady Jessica, warning her of the Harkonnen plan to kill Paul Atreides and his father, Duke Leto Atreides I. The visible note contained the code phrase that every Bene Gesserit not bound by a School Injunction was required to give another when conditions demanded it, with Jessica's fingers detecting the subtle coded dots in a single passage. The warning was not enough to stop the plot: Duke Leto was killed, and Jessica and Paul were forced to flee into the desert. Margot was also tasked by her Order, with her husband's knowledge, to breed with Feyd-Rautha to maintain the Harkonnen bloodline and to use her abilities to keep covert control over the deadly warrior for the Sisterhood's secret goals.
