Kara
the Wild Storm
Kara was one of the nine Valkyries cursed by Odin and sealed beneath the Witch's Cave in Midgard. Freed by Kratos and Atreus, she was reborn by Freya as a Shield Maiden and fought in the assault on Asgard.
Kara, called the Wild Storm, was one of the nine Valkyries cursed by Odin to remain in a corporeal form until madness overtook her. After she became too dangerous, she was sealed away by the Valkyrie Queen in Midgard. Kratos and Atreus freed her by destroying her physical form, and Freya later reborn her as one of the Shield Maidens.
Curse and imprisonment#
Kara was one of the nine Valkyries bound into corporeal bodies by the curse of Odin, a state unnatural to her kind that slowly drove her toward madness. As her corruption made her too dangerous to roam free, the Valkyrie Queen Sigrun sealed her away in a hidden chamber beneath the Witch's Cave in Midgard. She wore a golden helmet shaped after a ram, and her corruption left her skin a sickly pale blue and gave her great mechanical wings of bluish grey plated in golden metal. Among the cursed Valkyries she was set apart by a singular gift: the ability to summon Draugr to fight at her side, a power not even the queen Sigrun possessed.
Freedom and rebirth#
Kratos and Atreus found Kara's prison and destroyed her physical form, freeing her trapped spirit. Released from the curse, she gave the two her eternal gratitude before her spirit vanished and rejoined her sisters. During Ragnarok she was among the Valkyries Freya reborn through Vanir magic in a pure new body, her skin restored to its natural color and her metallic wings replaced with more organic, birdlike ones. As a Shield Maiden she acknowledged Kratos as her general and joined her freed sisters in the final assault on Asgard.
Legend#
In legend Kara was remembered as a wild storm given human form, calm and collected one moment and unleashing her fury the next. It was said her tears could wash the blood from a battlefield. The name itself carried the sense of "wild" in some readings of the old tongue.
