The Spear of Destiny was a magical weapon of immense power, belonging to the Sisters of Fate and reserved for emergencies. It was claimed by Kratos on his journey to the Island of Creation, after he slew the Dark Rider who wielded it. The weapon was bound to the power of Destiny itself, and was said to hold strength enough to kill Zeus.
A weapon of Fate#
The Spear of Destiny belonged to the Sisters of Fate and was held in reserve for emergencies. It was a magical weapon, its ends set with purple crystals that could pierce enemies and scatter further explosive crystals among them. The Spear could extend and retract itself to strike at greater range. It was said to contain the power of a god, much as the Blade of Olympus held within it the divine power that Kratos had once surrendered. The Fates Lahkesis and Atropos themselves recognized its potential and were wary of it, claiming that the Spear held the power to kill Zeus, though they warned that Kratos could not wield it to its full strength. Even Gaia treated it with caution.
Taken from the Dark Rider#
As Kratos made his way toward the Titan Typhon, and again upon his arrival at the Island of Creation, the Dark Rider appeared and attacked him with the Spear of Destiny. Kratos leapt onto the Dark Griffin the Rider rode and struck back, stabbing the Rider many times and seizing the Spear from him. He then turned it on the Griffin itself, spearing the beast and cutting away its wings so that it crashed to the ground. When Kratos crossed the Island of Creation, he came upon the dead Griffin in the Lowlands and recovered the Spear as his own.
Power over the Threads of Fate#
The Spear's deepest power lay in its connection to Fate. Aside from the staff of Lahkesis, it was the only known means by which the Threads of Fate could be cut. When Kratos drew the Spear after the death of Clotho, it blazed with every imaginable color of light, as though empowered by the presence of the Loom of Life and the countless threads of fate around it. Where the strength of the Titans and other efforts had failed, the Spear severed the Threads with ease, freeing the mortals, gods, and Titans bound to the destinies the Sisters had decreed for them.
The Spear of Destiny stood among the most powerful weapons of the Greek world, ranked alongside the Blade of Olympus as one of the only weapons known to contain the absorbed power of a god. Kratos recognized the kinship between the two, sensing the Spear's power from afar. What became of the Spear after Kratos traveled back in time to begin the Second Titanomachy was never told.
