Lahkesis
the measurer of the threads of fate
Lahkesis was the middle Sister of Fate, the measurer who determined the length and course of every life. Loyal to Zeus, she barred Kratos from the Loom of Fate and fought him alongside her sister Atropos before being trapped within a shattered mirror.
Lahkesis was one of the three Primordial Sisters of Fate, the middle sister and the measurer of the threads who determined how long the life of every mortal, god, and Titan would last and how it would play out. Titled the Goddess of the Present and the Manager of the Threads of Fate, she was loyal to Zeus and stood against Kratos on the Island of Creation, defeated alongside her sister Atropos.
The measurer of the threads#
As the middle Sister of Fate, Lahkesis embellished the Threads of Fate that her sister Clotho wove, determining how long a life would last and how it would unfold. She held herself proud of her station, less cruel than her elder sister Atropos yet still given to toying with the lives of mortals. By her own account she had decided that the Olympians would defeat the Titans in the First Titanomachy, that Kratos would be allowed to kill Ares, and that he would survive the many dangers of the Island of Creation. She carried Atropos within her own body, which lent her voice a resonant quality when she spoke.
She was a tall and slender goddess with pale skin, flowing white hair, and white pupilless eyes, bearing a pair of great wings that let her fly. She wielded a long silver staff crowned with the image of a phoenix, using it as the channel for her magic.
Encounters on the Island of Creation#
When Kratos came to the Island of Creation to seek the Loom of Fate and change his past, Lahkesis met him indirectly again and again. She first spoke through a great statue of herself, telling him that none could defy what the Fates decreed, that only death awaited him at the end of his journey, and that his soul would never find peace for what he had become. Enraged, Kratos struck the statue, blaming the gods for what he was.
In the auditoriums that bore her name and her sister's, she spoke again, forming images of herself from the blood of two translators Kratos had sacrificed, this time guiding him toward the Spire of the Fates. When at last he reached her throne, she told him once more that none could change their destiny, admitting she had allowed the Gods to win the Titan War and had purposely let the Spartan reach her. She was the only Sister Kratos saw and spoke with before facing them in their temple.
Defeat#
Kratos fought Lahkesis at her throne, and when he bested her she summoned Atropos to take him back to his battle with Ares and destroy the Blade of the Gods, which would kill him in both timelines. Kratos stopped her and returned to the throne room, where the two sisters fought him together. After a vicious battle he imprisoned them both within a dimensional mirror and shattered it, trapping them for good. Believing them dead, he pressed onward to claim the power of the Loom. Lahkesis had cared for her sister even then, freeing Atropos first from the mirror when they were briefly caught within it.
Powers#
As a Sister of Fate, Lahkesis was held more powerful than the gods or the Titans. She was immortal, killable only by a sufficiently powerful weapon or being, and possessed superhuman agility, stamina, and durability, even reflecting her own attacks back at her. She could fly upon her wings, travel through time using the Loom of the Fates, and manipulate probability to shape destiny. Through her staff she fired bolts of green energy, summoned pillars of the same force, and could hurl the staff in a boomerang arc. Her staff served only as a catalyst for power that was her own.
