Frequently asked questions

Who is Matau?
Matau was a Le-Matoran test driver of Le-Metru who became the Toa of Air among the Toa Metru, and later the Turaga of Le-Koro and then Le-Metru. He carried the Kanohi Mahiki, the Mask of Illusion, in every form he took.
How did Matau become a Toa?
Toa Lhikan delivered Toa Stones to Matau and five other Matoran of Metru Nui, who brought the stones to the Great Temple of Ga-Metru and were transformed together into the Toa Metru. Matau emerged as the Toa of Air, armed with Aero Slicers and bearing the Great Mahiki.
What did the Mahiki let Matau do?
As a Toa Metru, the Great Mahiki granted Matau full illusion projection, letting him create false images, alter the perceived appearance of objects and beings, and shift his own form entirely. As a Turaga he carried a Noble Mahiki that retained illusion capability at reduced range and duration.
How did Matau become a Turaga?
The six Toa Metru channelled the entirety of their Toa power into the spheres to wake the Matoran of Metru Nui who had been sealed inside during the Visorak occupation. The act restored the Matoran but reduced the Toa themselves to Turaga form, and Matau took the title of Turaga of Le-Koro on the island of Mata Nui.
What happened to Matau during the Bohrok War?
When the Bohrok swarms overran Le-Koro, Turaga Matau came under krana control along with every Le-Matoran. The krana he wore was a Krana Za, a variant with limited telepathic capability, and Lewa had to operate against the swarm while avoiding direct conflict with his own people until the krana could be removed.
