Frequently asked questions

Who is Nuju in BIONICLE?
Nuju was a Ko-Matoran scholar and seer of Ko-Metru's Knowledge Towers who became a Toa Metru of Ice and, after sacrificing his Toa power, the Turaga of Ko-Koro and later Ko-Metru. As Turaga he communicated exclusively in bird calls and whistles, with Matoro serving as his translator.
How did Nuju become a Toa Metru?
Toa Lhikan delivered Toa Stones to six Matoran across Metru Nui before his own capture, and Nuju was among them. The group converged on the Great Temple and was transformed into the Toa Metru alongside Vakama, Nokama, Whenua, Onewa, and Matau.
Why does Nuju speak only in bird calls?
As Turaga, Nuju spoke only in bird calls, clicks, and whistles, and the Ko-Matoran Matoro served as his translator throughout the Mata Nui years. The dialect of whistles he developed required dedicated study to understand, and after Matoro's death no second translator of comparable fluency emerged.
What happened to Nuju during the Visorak occupation?
The Visorak horde captured all six Toa Metru and exposed them to Hordika venom, which reduced Nuju to a partly bestial form with restricted ice powers and a mutated Matatu. After the Rahaga directed the team to Keetongu, the Rahi cured them and restored their Toa forms.
What is the connection between Nuju and Matoro?
Matoro served as Nuju's translator for the duration of the Mata Nui years and was later raised as a Toa, joining the Toa Mahri. Matoro eventually gave his life to revive the Great Spirit Mata Nui during the events at Karda Nui, and the chronicles preserved no direct record of Nuju's response to the loss.
