Frequently asked questions

What is the Tomb of the Mask Makers?
The Tomb of the Mask Makers was the underground chamber beneath the City of the Mask Makers where the Protectors of Okoto laid the comatose Ekimu in a gold coffin after the Battle of the Mask Makers. It was the resting place from which he guided the Toa and was at last revived.
Why was Ekimu laid in the tomb?
Ekimu was struck down by the shock wave from the destruction of the Mask of Ultimate Power and fell into a coma from which no surface measure could rouse him. The surviving Protectors carried his body to the City of the Mask Makers and laid him in a gold coffin in an underground chamber that was then sealed.
How did Ekimu communicate with the Toa while in the tomb?
Ekimu retained the ability to communicate telepathically even while unconscious, using the Golden Masks of Power he had forged before his interment. After the Toa defeated the Lord of Skull Spiders, his voice reached each Toa through their mask and instructed them to find his resting place. The communication was one-directional and navigational.
How was Ekimu revived?
The Toa descended into the tomb chamber after defeating the Lord of Skull Spiders, gathered around the gold coffin, and combined their six elemental powers as a single act directed into the comatose Ekimu. None of the elements alone would have been sufficient, but the six in concert woke him.
What happened to the tomb after Ekimu woke?
The coffin had been a vessel for a sleeping occupant rather than a permanent shrine, so its purpose was discharged once Ekimu rose. He emerged to pursue Kulta, who had taken the Mask of Creation, and the chamber's function as a resting place ended while the Ancient City above was later repopulated.
