The Bone Hunters' Shadow#
Trade made the Water Tribe wealthy, but wealth made them a target. In The CrossingThe CrossingThe Bara Magna serial in which Strakk, Gresh, Kirbold, and Tarduk carried an exsidian shipment from Iconox to Vulcanus along the dangerous northern route and uncovered the first Skrall and Vorox confrontations of the empire era. serial, the Bone Hunters made a deliberate decision to sever trading connections between villages, specifically targeting TajunTajunTajun was a village of the Water Tribe, situated on the banks of the Skrall River. and the Water Tribe's commerce. Every caravan that moved through the desert became a lethal risk. The Hunters didn't simply steal from the caravans. They killed the coachmen, raising the cost of survival.
This economic pressure pushed the tribe toward the arena. If trade failed, the Water Tribe would need to win food and resources through combat. The arena matches between tribes became a matter of survival, not sport.
