What Happened To The Girl Who Hit On Darth Vader?

He killed her. An unnamed Imperial nurse serving on the first Death Star became obsessed with Darth Vader, stole pieces of his armour and a vial of his blood as keepsakes, and eventually walked into his private quarters to confess her feelings. Vader, sitting there without his helmet, simply stared at her, then ran her through with his lightsaber and called the bridge to have her body taken away.

Where this story comes from#

This is Vader: Dark Visions 3, a Marvel comic published in 2019. It is Disney canon, not Legends, and it is one of the strangest single issues in the whole line. The comic never names the nurse, and no later source has either. She is listed as an unidentified Imperial nurse, and so is the doctor she works under.

That anonymity is part of the point. After the death of Padme Amidala the Dark Lord of the Sith showed almost no affection to anyone, and the walking life support suit did not exactly draw admirers. The story is about someone building an entire relationship out of nothing, with a man who does not know she exists.

The first encounter set the pattern#

Vader arrived at the Death Star and made his way to his personal medical bay. On the way he barged straight through a medical cart the nurse was tending. She was left flustered, already infatuated.

He was treated by the doctor. Then, as Vader was putting his helmet back on, the nurse walked in on him. He was furious. He Force-pushed the doctor into the wall and told him to control his medical bay or be replaced.

She read the whole thing as reciprocation. In her mind, Vader losing his temper was Vader protecting her. That misreading is the engine of everything that follows.

Told to clean up afterwards, she instead pocketed pieces of Vader's armour and kept them as a keepsake, storing them alongside other discarded fragments and a vial of his blood.

The cape#

A later incident brought Vader crashing back onto the Death Star in his TIE Advanced x1. He went to the medical bay again and demanded the nurse fetch the doctor. She briefly tended to him herself before the doctor returned and ordered her out. She experienced those few seconds as intimacy.

Vader, impatient, cut the appointment short and left to rejoin the battle. He also left his cape behind. She took it to her quarters and added it to the collection.

The video's version has her calling the collection souvenirs of their unspoken love, and giving the cape a good sniff before filing it away. The comic's shape is the same. She is curating a relationship out of medical waste.

Then the doctor found the stash and dumped the lot into the trash compactor. That was the break. Driven mad, she decided the time had come to tell Vader how she felt.

The confession, and the quarters he never locked#

Vader left his private chambers unlocked. Not out of carelessness, but because he believed nobody in the galaxy would dare walk in. The nurse walked in.

He was sitting there helmetless. She told him he was beautiful and confessed her infatuation. There was no speech, no threat, no Force choke. He looked at her.

A moment later he stabbed her with his lightsaber, killing her instantly. Then he put his helmet back on, walked out and contacted the bridge, telling them to come and get the garbage out of his quarters.

Why the scene lands#

There is no cruelty in it, which is somehow worse. Vader does not punish her, does not toy with her, does not even seem angry. She saw his uncovered face, and that was the end of the conversation.

It also sits oddly against everything the Marvel run does with Vader's obsession with the dead. Around the same era he was building a fortress on Mustafar to tear a hole in the Force and drag Padme back. A living woman offering him devotion got four seconds of his attention and a lightsaber through the chest.

What the story is actually doing#

Dark Visions ran five issues, each one a separate look at Vader from the outside, and this is the one people remember. That is not an accident.

Most Vader stories put you next to someone who knows what he is. A Rebel officer, an Imperial who fears him, a Jedi survivor. Every one of them is reacting to the correct picture. The nurse never gets the correct picture. She spends the entire issue building a version of him out of glimpses, and the reader watches the gap between her version and the real one widen until it kills her.

The armour helps that along. A masked figure gives you nothing to read, so anything you project onto it sticks. She got a flash of temper and read tenderness. She got a discarded cape and read a gift. There is nothing supernatural in it and no dark side manipulation. She simply had a blank surface to write on.

Vader's part in it is the coldest thing in the issue. He does not notice her, does not pity her, does not bother to be cruel. Whatever pieces of Anakin Skywalker survived Mustafar, none of them were on duty that day.

The other people on that station come off badly too. The doctor watched the whole thing develop, watched her hoard armour fragments and a vial of blood, and dealt with it by throwing the collection into a compactor. On a battle station where the Dark Lord of the Sith walks the corridors, nobody escalated.
