The Energized Sphere Ammunition of the Voya Nui Campaign

Hollow spheres carrying gas, liquid, or energy, fired by Zamor Launchers and used by the Piraka to enslave the Matoran of Voya Nui, by the Toa Inika to free them, and by a long list of older operators going back to Toa Jovan.

Each sphere was essentially a hollow ball into which gas, liquid, or energy could be loaded depending on the effect required. Fired from the launcher at a target, the solid surface of the sphere temporarily became intangible, and the substance inside passed through the outer shell into the target. The mechanism allowed operators to deliver effects that no conventional projectile could carry: brainwashing viruses, fear-induced nightmares, power siphoning, stasis fields, energy chains, tracking pulses, miniaturisation, and the cure to the very enslavement the spheres themselves were used to inflict.

Construction and operation#

The sphere itself was a simple object in concept. Its outer body was a hollow ball, sealed against the interior contents during storage and flight. The interior could carry gas, liquid, or energy, and the choice of payload was the entire effect. The same physical sphere, loaded with different substances, became a fundamentally different weapon depending on the contents. The standardisation of the projectile was the engineering achievement; the substances were sourced separately and matched to the operational need.

The delivery mechanism was unusual. On firing at the target, the solid surface of the sphere temporarily became intangible at the moment of contact. The substance inside passed through the outer shell and into the target rather than dispersing on impact, which meant that the effect was delivered directly into the recipient's body rather than to its surrounding environment. The intangibility lasted only as long as required to discharge the payload. Once the contents were transferred, the empty sphere itself ceased to be a tactical object. The technology was unique to ZamorZamor SpheresHollow spheres carrying gas, liquid, or energy, fired by Zamor Launchers and used by the Piraka to enslave the Matoran of Voya Nui, by the Toa Inika to free them, and by a long list of older operators going back to Toa Jovan. ammunition; no other weapon in the Matoran UniverseMatoran UniverseA civilization of biomechanical beings living inside a colossal robot, destroyed when Teridax seized control. was recorded as combining a hollow-projectile delivery system with a phase-shift outer body of this kind.

The launcher itself was a long instrument capable of being mounted on a vehicle or held by a single user. The earliest models held a single sphere at a time and required reloading between shots. Later upgrades increased the capacity. Frequently asked questions

What are Zamor Spheres in BIONICLE?
Zamor Spheres were hollow projectile ammunition fired from the Zamor Launcher. Each sphere was a hollow ball loaded with gas, liquid, or energy depending on the effect required.
How do Zamor Spheres work?
On firing at a target, the solid surface of the sphere temporarily became intangible at the moment of contact, and the substance inside passed through the outer shell into the target rather than dispersing on impact. This delivered the payload directly into the recipient's body.
How did the Piraka use Zamor Spheres on Voya Nui?
The Piraka loaded their spheres with Antidermis, the gaseous essence of Teridax, which completely enslaved any Matoran it struck. They attacked the Matoran village at night and fired the spheres at the gathered population, and only the six Matoran of the Voya Nui Resistance Team escaped.
How did the Toa Inika reverse the Matoran enslavement?
The resistance stole one of the Piraka's launchers, and the inventor Velika studied it and built upgraded four-shot launchers for the Toa Inika. Velika located an Energized Protodermis pool, and spheres loaded with that substance worked as a cure to the Antidermis virus.
Who was the earliest known user of Zamor Spheres?
The earliest known operator was Toa Jovan, roughly seventy-nine thousand years before the Voya Nui campaign. His yellow-orange spheres had the power to weaken a foe's weapons, which let his team neutralise hostile equipment without lethal engagement.
