Thrud, also known as Thrud Thorsdottir, was the daughter of Thor and Sif and the granddaughter of Odin. She was the younger sister of Modi and half-sister of Magni. After her father's death during Ragnarok, she inherited his hammer Mjolnir and took up his mantle as the Goddess of Thunder.

Origins in Asgard#

Thrud was born of the marriage of Thor and Sif and grew up in Asgard alongside her older brothers Magni and Modi. Her existence was first hinted at when Sindri, hiding from Magni and Modi, began to mention that the brothers had a sister before Kratos cut him off.

Friendship with Atreus#

When Atreus, going by the giant name Loki during his time in Asgard, was welcomed into a room that had once belonged to her late brother Modi, Thrud confronted him with her blade before dropping it and offering a handshake instead. Bearing no ill will over Modi's death, she warmed to him quickly. The two went for a walk in which she spoke of the origins of her great blade and her dream of one day becoming a Valkyrie. She introduced him to her mother, Sif, who did not take kindly to him for the harm done to the family, and Thrud pulled him away, urging him to prove himself if he wished to get anywhere with Odin.

Trials in Helheim and Niflheim#

Tasked with retrieving the last part of the Mask of Creation, Thrud was sent to Helheim with Atreus and her uncle Heimdall as a chance to prove herself to the All-Father. She stubbornly dismissed Atreus when he raised Odin's many crimes, having been fed lies by the Aesir, and explained that she had decided to become a Valkyrie after secretly watching them train. When Atreus released Garm, Thrud was frightened that Odin would punish her, yet she still defended Atreus when Heimdall scolded him. When Heimdall mocked her and her father, she attacked, only for him to easily evade her. With her chance to impress Odin ruined, she grew furious with Atreus.

Sent next to find Thor for a journey to Niflheim, Thrud and Atreus discovered him drunk in a tavern. Her attempts to stop him failed, and a brawl broke out with the Einherjar. After Thor collapsed, she and Atreus carried him outside, where she berated him for relapsing into drink and was saddened that Odin's cruelty had driven him to it, while reassuring him that she and Sif were there for him.

Turning against Odin#

By the time of Ragnarok, Thrud saw Atreus as an enemy for bringing an army to her home and pinned him to a wall, refusing to believe that Odin was evil. Only when Sif arrived with a bloodied Skjoldr and explained that Odin would execute anyone, even his own family, did Thrud finally accept the truth. She chose to help stop her father, who stood between the rebels and Odin. When Kratos broke through with Sindri's help, he complimented her fighting. After the battle between Kratos and Thor, she watched in horror as Odin murdered her father as punishment for standing up to him. She tried to attack Odin, but he seized Mjolnir and used it to hurl her out of Asgard to safety.

Heir to Mjolnir#

In the aftermath of Ragnarok, Atreus found Thrud and Sif alive together by a fire, and comforted her with the truth that Thor had tried to change in the end. She told Atreus it had been an honor to fight beside him and said she would seek out something of her own. Kratos, Freya, and Mimir later found her near the desert shop in Alfheim, where she had recovered Mjolnir. Claiming the hammer, she vowed to make her father proud and flew into the air, with Mimir offering his congratulations. Freya judged her an impressive young woman and believed that, now armed with her father's hammer, Thrud would seek out Sigrun for training. Sigrun later confirmed that the Valkyries, short of members after Ragnarok, were recruiting new Shield Maidens, and that Thrud had wanted to join before the call had even gone out; Kratos gave his full support to her candidacy.

Powers and weapons#

As the daughter of Thor and Sif, Thrud was a powerful young Aesir goddess. Like other gods she was immortal once grown and could be killed only by stronger gods or magic weapons. She possessed superhuman strength, able to hold her own against the Einherjar and to lift her inebriated father, and like her father and brothers she could generate and manipulate electricity, imbuing her weapons with it. She withstood a Mjolnir throw from Odin with little injury, though he had not meant to kill her, and after claiming the hammer she gained the ability to fly. She carried an ornate machete and a mace, both nods to her brothers, and was a born warrior skilled enough to impress Kratos, though still a novice against the likes of her father or Heimdall.
