Undead Legionnaire
the risen soldiers of the gods

The Undead Legionnaires were the risen soldiers of the Greek world, the most common of all the undead servants of the gods. Clad in the armor of ancient warriors, they marched in the army of Ares and stood watch in the deep places of Pandora's Temple, and Kratos cut through their ranks from his earliest battles at sea.
The risen ranks#
The Undead Legionnaires were the basic sort of the undead, the foot soldiers of that risen host which served the gods and, at times, powerful monsters. They were dressed in the armor of ancient Greek warriors and appeared as demonic skeletons, fragments of decaying flesh still clinging to their bones. They were a frequently met foe and a varied one, often coming in clusters. In their earliest appearances they wore little armor and carried short swords, but as the wars of the gods wore on they came to bear larger swords and heavier armor, and at the last they wielded massive shields and scythes.
Beyond the common Legionnaire stood several stronger breeds. Greatest among these were the Hades Legionnaires, which Kratos fought within the Underworld. They were kindred too to a wide host of other risen creatures, among them the Hoplites and the Shades of Morpheus whom Kratos battled in the realm of the dead.
In the wars of the gods#
Kratos first met the Undead Legionnaires during the Hydra's attack upon his fleet, when the risen soldiers swarmed the decks of his ships. They later made up the greater part of Ares' army of the undead, the host that assaulted Athens in the god of war's campaign of conquest, and they were commonly set as guardians within Pandora's Temple.
In the years that followed they remained a constant foe. During Kratos' own godhood, Hades sent such undead servants to bar his path as he hunted an assassin and the plot to ruin his name among the Olympians. In the war against the Sisters of Fate they grew rarer, appearing only near the spiked walls before the Garden of the Gods and close to the chamber that guarded the Sisters of Fate. In the final fall of Olympus their place as the most common soldier of the gods passed to the Olympus Sentries, who took up the same endless duty. In the Norse lands, far from Greece, Kratos met their like once more within a chamber of sacrifice, where the old Legionnaires rose alongside Harpies and fought much as the Draugr of Midgard.
