Mira's Marauders: the mercenary company that rules Dead Man's Rock

spikes, skulls and rust, and no interest in polish

Mira's Marauders are the terran mercenary company led by Mira Han, based at Deadman's Port on Dead Man's Rock and the primary power on that lawless planet since the death of Ethan Stewart.

By Billy

Mira's Marauders, also known as Mira's Mercs, are a terran mercenary organization led by Mira Han, known for ferocity and adaptability and based out of Deadman's Port on Dead Man's Rock. They are the primary power on that world, which is another way of saying that the lawless planet has a government now, and it charges by the job.

Who are Mira's Marauders?#

They are ferocious mercenaries whose weapons and armor have been heavily modified to add both function and an intimidation factor, which in practice means spikes, extra plating and skull decals bolted onto powered armor and ships. Many of the vessels are heavily rusted and chipping. They perform as well as their Dominion counterparts anyway. The company has worked desert environments for years and the weathering shows, and nobody in it has made any effort to keep the equipment polished or painted.

The unit list has its own character. They field a large number of reapers. Among the first hires was a marauder corps, though whether those men follow out of loyalty or because Han holds particularly good blackmail on them is not recorded. Much of the technology has been redesigned: vikings that make a loud noise when their engines are fully revved, widow mines carrying extra explosive capacity. For all her charms, Han has never been able to reliably recruit or retain ghosts, and the Marauders have never managed to build a thor despite trying. Members of War Pigs, Hammer Securities, Spartan Company and the Siege Breakers have all been hired to fight alongside them at one point or another.

Cutthroat#

During the Second Great War, Colonel Orlan hired the group to protect him from Raynor's Raiders. It was a poor choice of protection. Han already knew both Jim Raynor and Matt Horner, and once she had taken their payment of 6000 minerals she turned on her own client. Orlan's forces were beaten, and she held the colonel prisoner for Raynor.

Taking Dead Man's Rock#

Ethan Stewart's death opened a power vacuum on Dead Man's Rock, and Mira Han and her Marauders moved into it. She became the primary power on the world. It stayed lawless and brutal, but the Marauders took in refugees of the Second Great War and distributed and shared food rations with the population. To hold Deadman's Port they built communications hubs that could send encrypted transmissions off-world, kept them heavily guarded, and made them redundant so that losing one meant moving to another.

After Sarah Kerrigan was de-infested, the group sheltered Valerian and Raynor from the Dominion there. A Dominion agent turned a Raiders member named Cooper, who in turn reached a Marauder named Gary Crane, and Crane led a force of mercenaries to capture Valerian, Raynor and their people and hand them over. Mira's Marauders fought the traitors off while the Dominion Renegades escaped. Han then went through her own ranks and culled everyone who had betrayed her.

Later in the same war, after the Dominion captured Raynor, Horner came to Han to borrow Orlan's services and find out where Raynor was being held. She said no. Her Marauders fought the Hyperion and its crew, lost their fleets and space platforms in the process, and released Orlan to the Raiders at the end of it.

The End War#

During the End War, Mira's Marauders joined forces with elite pilots of the Dominion Fleet under Admiral Horner, and the two commanders pushed back Amon's Forces together. Somewhere in that period Han won a large number of liberators in a game of poker, then lost them to a rival mercenary not long after.

A Mira's Marauders skin set and console arrived in the Katowice 2018 War Chest, built by adding spikes and blades to the units and pushing the exhaust effects harder. One of the developers recorded his neighbor's car for the sound design. The group's decal can be earned in Wings of Liberty by completing the Team Random 500 achievement, and their symbol appears in the background of the Warhead Junction map in Heroes of the Storm.
