Ezra Bridger was a human male Jedi Padawan, freedom fighter, and revolutionary leader in the early rebellion against the Galactic Empire. Born on Empire Day in 19 BBY to Ephraim and Mira Bridger, he was orphaned on the planet Lothal as a child after his parents' public criticism of the Empire led to their imprisonment. In 5 BBY he joined the rebel crew of the Ghost and was trained in the ways of the Force by Kanan Jarrus. With a particular connection to nature and other living beings, his abilities grew quickly.
Orphan of Lothal#
Ezra Bridger was born on Lothal in 19 BBY to Ephraim and Mira Bridger. His parents' open criticism of the Empire led to their imprisonment, leaving him alone from the age of seven. He survived as a young thief and scavenger on the streets of his homeworld, learning to rely on himself rather than hold out hope that his parents would return.
The Ghost and Jedi training#
In 5 BBY, Bridger fell in with the rebel crew of the Ghost and was taken in by Kanan Jarrus, a Jedi who had survived the fall of the Jedi Order. Recognizing the boy's Force sensitivity, Jarrus took him as a Padawan despite being only a Padawan himself. Bridger's powers grew rapidly, marked above all by a natural gift for communicating with other living beings. A message of hope he broadcast across the Lothal sector inspired a number of rebel cells to begin working together against the Empire.
The dark side and Malachor#
In 4 BBY, Bridger learned that his parents had been killed while attempting to escape from prison. Already struggling with the pull of the dark side, the young Jedi grew more conflicted, a tension that came to a head on the ancient Sith world of Malachor. There he recovered a Sith holocron in the hope of destroying the Sith, and encountered the former Sith Lord Maul, who sought to make Bridger his apprentice, especially after the boy used the dark side to open the holocron. The episode briefly strained his apprenticeship with Jarrus, who was blinded by Maul on Malachor, but the two repaired their bond and continued to grow as Jedi.
Leader in the rebellion#
As his powers strengthened, Bridger took on greater leadership roles. He helped Captain Rex and a surviving battalion of Separatist battle droids make peace, bringing a measure of closure to the unresolved Clone Wars. He came into repeated conflict with Grand Admiral Thrawn, aided his crewmate Sabine Wren in her effort to reunite the Mandalorian people, and sought out Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, whom he believed was key to destroying the Sith.
Liberation of Lothal and Peridea#
In 1 BBY, Bridger moved to free his people during the Liberation of Lothal with the help of the purrgil. Toward the end of the battle, he and Thrawn were taken into hyperspace by the creatures, an opening that allowed the Lothal resistance to liberate the planet by destroying the Imperial dome. After the fall of the Empire at the Battle of Jakku, Wren and Ahsoka Tano set off on a journey to find him. Stranded for nearly a decade on the planet Peridea in another galaxy, Bridger was reunited with Sabine and Ahsoka when they arrived alongside a force searching for Thrawn. When Thrawn escaped Peridea aboard the Chimaera, Bridger escaped as well by hitching a ride on the Star Destroyer, though at the cost of leaving Sabine and Ahsoka behind.
